Very startled you omitted Joey Archer from your list, knowing your periodic orientation towards that era.

Please keep in mind that, "Criticism is praise misphrased." To me, your post here is worthy of comment.

As for me, I had to read through the first four pages of this thread twice to confirm the absence of Benitez from any previous mention. Pambele was defeated entirely with Wilfred's jab.

Me, I have to look for people who were never out jabbed, or as close to that achievement as practical. I don't know how much I can hold Carnera against Loughran, or Hearns against Benitez in that respect.

Joey Archer's may be criticized for a lack of power, but did anybody ever out jab him?

With respect to power, I have to rate Hagler's right jab over Liston's left jab, on a P4P basis.

Louis? His jab was devastating, but Schmeling figured out how to exploit the flaws in Joe's execution of it. Louis blew him out in the return, but never otherwise proved he solved Max's understanding of how to counter and neutralize it effectively.

Working off of your list, I'd probably go along with Pastrano, Loughran and Holmes, replace Liston with Hagler as my power jab representative, then wrestle with Archer, Arguello, Benitez, Canto, Camacho, Hearns and a bewildering assortment of other candidates. [I might also categorize southpaw jabs like Hagler's and Camacho's separately, to pare down the listing.]

it's so hard to make short lists...it's hard for me, that is. Yes, you are so right about Archer, and in retrospect, I wish that I had included him at the expense of Liston or even Holmes...well maybe not Holmes, but you are correct about Archer.

Quartey's jab was crazy when he fought Park. Too bad he couldn't put it together and have a great career, he had all the potential to do so.

My inclusion of Nipper Pat Daly was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Mainly because he wouldn't have been mentioned anyway. Still, year-for-year his jab is undoubtedly the greatest there ever was. So maybe he does fully deserve to be here. At 14,15,16 this child is outboxing the world's top flyweight and bantamweights.

Truly phenomenal. He pretty much lost just twice through his first 90 fights or so. He was 79-6 leading up to his fight against the world-class Johnny Cuthbert (whom Daly completely outboxed before being knocked-out).

    Daly's losses:

    - Billy Boulger: A robbery. Boulger outweighed Daly and had direct connections to the venue. Daly would avenge this loss on multiple occasions.

    - Boyce Deary: Daly was clearly winning before the two started trading low blows.

    - Moe Mizler: Fight stopped due to a cut over Daly's eye. Daly was having his way.

    - Young Siki: Daly's only real loss during this stretch. Siki simply caught Daly flush. Daly ended up picking himself up too soon, not giving himself enough time to recover. Huge learning experience for Daly.

    - Dod Oldfield: Complete robbery. Oldfield's management had connections to the venue. It was prosperous to think Daly even remotely lost.

    - Douglas Parker: I honestly can't recall the accounts of this fight too much. But by this time fighting 4 or 5 times a month was becoming too much for the 16 year old Daly to handle.

    Anyway, I love this guy.

Haha how could I forget another of my all time favourite fighters very educated left hands?? ARCHIE MOORE he had a great left hand varied it a lot aswell but it was a thing of beauty

I used to like watching the way Michael Moorer used his right jab reminded me a lot of almost like a lefty Joe Louis at times - I think in shape and motivated Moorer was quite under appreciated

Another is Riddik Bowe he had a consistently good jab

I doubt Ike cares that much. He fought Carr, Oscar, Phillips, Lopez (robbed) and Vargas and made out aces in $$$$ and is like some sort of prince in Ghana I believe

Oba Carr actually had a tight little jab. He boxed well against Randall in the eliminator and basically surgeoned the "Surgeon"

The footwork and the jab in the Trinidad bout was ridiculous.

Same. People hated Oscar so much O back then you don't even understand, they'd do anything to score a fight in his opponent's favour it was crazy, people even try and give Trinidad the 9th when he was combo'd to death and landed nil.

Just imagine what the grade 8 version of me was thinking when they announced Tito the winner

Yeah it was a great punch and Hagler knew when to leap without being countered with a right hand. The guy was always off balance when he threw it.
