There's nothing worse than watching a live fight on the tube and the announcer/analyst you feel is all wrong... For me, I like/liked Steward, Lewis, and Foreman .. Not a fan of Lederman, Lampley, Merchant, ... Your thoughts???
Al Beirnstein is the man for me. That guy knows his stuff. Reads the game really well. Johnny Nelson is a great analyst as well. As was Emanuel Steward (RIP). Foreman is good. Malignaggi is good as well.
I would have loved to have heard Marciano do a fight!. I liked Merchant too. I used to like Gil Clancy some. I hate an announcer who thinks he has to hype the fight, comes off lame.
The best "team" to me was Tim Ryan and Gill Clancy. I don't like any of the HBO cheerleaders with an agenda. To me the best announcing is when 1 man alone announces like ABC WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS did in the 70s and early 80s. I still love to watch my films from then and hear and see 15 15 15 potential rounds of greatness.
Rocky did the commentary (or at least dubbed it) over Ray Robinson vs Randy Turpin 2 This content is protected
I liked Alex Wallau. He looked like a Wall Street Exec. but he knew his boxing. And he was very articulate and to the point. Substance over style.
Favorite is Malignaggi, followed by maybe Steward and Gil Clancy. Least favorites are Foreman, Lampley, and Leonard.
Foreman was likeable. Lennox never really got the hang of it. Jones grew into it. Not a fan of kellerman. Atlas is fine if he can stay impartial. Steward was really good at pointing out little things that most wouldn't notice. Merchant was a hilarious old drunk who stopped caring 10 years before he quit. Paulie is great actually.
