Let's try not to get into a "round in circles" debate here, let's just hear some details on how you regard Roy Jones' chin and why you hold that position.
I believe its always been a bit suspect but his lightning quick reflexes meant it was never a problem as he was hardly ever hit until he got a little older.
Im on board with this opinion. After he got caught by DeValle in 99 I always wondered, but like Arc says, because of his reflexes, it was never really a problem.
I believe it took Roy Jones being past his prime and more susceptible to being hit to expose his fragile jaw. I mean I can barely remember a time that he got caught clean in his prime...he was that hard to hit thanks to his god like reflexes. He was put on his ass by Lou De Valle if I recall though...though I can't remember if that was a flash KD or not. I think his Chin is weak. Not Herbie hide glass or anything...but weak. I believe his supreme relexes prevented this weakness from ever being exposed in his pomp.
In his prime it was a non-factor and never was never really tested...because nobody could touch him. Everyone knows that now he is chinny, but in his defense loosing all that muscule, moving down from heavyweight would have been a major factor...it also took away his legs & his stamina.....neither of which he can recover! so in response His Chin Now = Glass His Chin In his Prime = We will never know!!!!!......i dont agree with it being suspect and I dont agree with people saying that he has ALWAYS been chinny!!!!!....it was a non factor in his prime but one that must be considered when discussing who would win out of him or SRR....as roy is one of the few with the tools to give hm nightmares!
Nothing great, but I've seen most of his fights, and I've seen him take quite a few good shots in his younger to prime days without blinking. It seemed you just had to hit him in the right spot, and hard. Only with age was anyone able to do that, though.
Its probably never been great... but that never mattered before he slowed a bit. I suspect dropping weight made it worse.
He's been hit plenty of times in his prime and it never fazed him as it does now. Even Ruiz cought him a couple of times in their fight. And i thought those punches were harder than Tarver or Johnson's. Maybe it was the loss of weight or age alone, who knows.
Although he never showed an all-star chin, I still remember him taking a flush shot on the chin against Ruiz, early in their fight...That gave him loads of confidence for the rest of the fight ! In his case, it's tough to rate his chin because he never had to rely on it until he faded late in his career.... doesn't necessarily mean he couldn't take good shots early in it..
I thought he was like flash lightning and the chances of being caught were slim. When i seen Tarver wipe him out i realised if you catch him hes gone.Lets face it though the punch Antonio Tarver hit him with would have KOed 95% of men on this earth.
