Coward. Talked **** about Calzaghe and then ducked him. Talked **** about Roy Jones and never intended on fighting him.
Uhhh, not another bloody Steve Collins thread on the Brit forum. If you haven't seen them before dude and you're on the level, just do a search. Or here's the summary, everybody here thinks he way worse than Eubank and Benn and barely disguise their disgust that he beat them.
No he isn't HOF candidate. Tough guy and a late developer, benefited a lot from the "closed shop" the UK was operating in the super Middleweight division around that time.
decent fighter who was in the right place at the right time for his wins over eubank and benn, i think he realised his limitations during the mccallum fight and never again took on a world class fighter anywhere near his best
****ing gnarly fighter, would of given many 168's a tough fight. he beat eubank's fair and square, beat an old tired fighter who was lacking faith in the game a very unmotivated benn in the return . but his strength and endurance and over all skullduggery/chin/stamina/cagey style made him very hard to beat. only got beat by some of the best pure boxers of the 90's. his fight with reggie johnson is good to watch. very good offencively very good in the later rounds, watson would/coulda beaten him maybe
:huhreally he is shown big love down here. you knew eubank and benn where passed it and near/in retirement but still he swept up the division. was the 'man' for a bit.
There are a few exceptions but most of the opinions I have read regarding Collins on the British forum are quite scathing. This Eubank and Benn were past their primes argument doesn't wash with me, Collins was also past prime and had been in a lot of tough fights by the time he fought Eubank and Benn, there's no evidence to suggest he would have lost to either when they were in their primes. I think he would have beat Eubank at any point. Benn would have been a harder fight but it would not be a foregone conclusion.
Tough, awkward. Took great bodyshots off MM, great left hooks off NB. Took them and came back. Reggie Johnson threw everything at him and couldn't get him over. He could attack from angles with arm punches and be difficult to predict timing-wise. Actually had very good lateral movement and decent boxing skills in his US title wins. Ugliest of styles from Eubank II on. Certainly nothing special, apart from his toughness maybe, and chin.
