He showed a lot of heart and grit, but also problems with infighting and in stamina.

He needs to be kept away from Margarito or Williams for the time being. Same with Floyd if that fight were ever to be proposed.

    Your own thoughts?

Agreed. Running out of gas is a bad sign, and a juggernaut like Margo would take full advantage of that.

Amen, man. That could be a very bad fight for Berto.

I also added Williams' and Floyd's names to the list of people to keep Berto away from for now.

About the same. He answered questions about his heart though tonight, I think a kid raised with less of a warrior ethic doesn't turn away the effort Collazo summoned tonight, the one bad card notwithstanding.

It also hit me that his compact frame doesn't really suit his natural style. He wants to be shooting combinations from the outside, but his body says inside banger. I wasn't surprised at all that Collazo tried walking him down, since he still fights like an amateur on the inside. I didn't expect him to bring THAT kind of intensity with it though, and I didn't expect him to look like the bigger, stronger man for such long stretches.

Bottom line, I don't know that Berto ever gains true elite status, but he can hold that belt for quite a while.

The reason Berto said he would give him a rematch is because he don't want none of what Margo, Cotto, etc. would give him. LOL

I feel better about Berto after the fight. Collazo is a tough matchup for anyone. Has Margo, Williams, Clottey or Cotto beaten Collazo? Berto does have flaws, though. Which fighter out there doesnt?

agree, Margo especially would destroy him and I think he would have real trouble getting anywhere near Williams

He needs to learn to use his quick feet to his advantage.

so basically keep him away from good fighters? Berto is exactly the kind of champion boxing does not need right now

I'm not a big Berto fan, just saying what I would do if I were his management. He's not ready for those fights.

BlueApollo, GeerGrove -- Agreed with just about all you said. Good stuff. :thumbsup

Several of the 147lbers would've KO'd Berto tonight had they fought him. Collazo is hardly a power puncher and I believe Collazo had Berto hurt a couple of times in this fight. A guy like Cotto or Margo would KO him.

I'm going to say that my hopes for Berto are even more diminished. Collazo presented none of the specific types of problems anyone anticipated from a tactical standpoint - he never even showed up, FFS, and Berto still "lost the fight." That's RIDICULOUS. Outrageous really.. I would have picked Jesse Feliciano over Berto if I thought this is what it would take.

hell yeah, he is a champion and a titleholder. That means he is supposed to be in the elite of the division. The last thing WW needs is a champ who fights nobodies and holds up unification fights

Doesn't even want to try to fight a top welter, Collazo was robbed of this decision.
