Berto certainly isn't anywhere close to being ready for the guys you've mentioned. By the time he's ready to fight the division's elite, PTP will be a full fledged middle weight, Margarito will always be a nightmare match up for him, but Cotto imo would be a beatable adversary. Berto has better stamina than Cotto so outlasting him in a slug fest would be a possibility and Cotto's chin I think would certainly be tested again Berto's hard fast punches. He's probably a year away from such a test.
A Crash waiting to happen.... (I like his uppercut combo, but danm!! talk about going to the well once to many X's...LMAO!) Against an elite fighter, he would be picked apart.
callozo i cant see where he gets his shot. but hey if berto wins close fights collazo will claim robery and if its by landslide he will claim injury. i would like to see him fight juda if juda had a better comeback record hes 2-4(1tko)-1 nc. since baldomir. and his last fight with clottey he again to show losing his will. and if fight wasnt stop by doctor and would have came down to another knock out. clottey was getting to him. but one thing for sure it will be a win win for both fighters. for berto another experience fighter ex champ slick south paw punching power fast hands. for juda well alot the same besides berto has an undefeated record.the both take alot of shots its just juda like to move in and out. im not sure if i see berto ever fight a south paw i cant remember but collazo is a good direction in the south paw department. his last ten fights all been orthodox. so juda aint the one to test if he hasnt fought a south paw before. if berto was surprise by forbes speed juda is quick with pop.berto still take a lot shots to face juda right now inless juda power doesnt pose a problem for berto. berto is only 23-0 and 25 years old so he has alot of time to get his defense up. offense i think he is great nice speed nice power nice combos. he like to mix it up alot too with head and body shots. just need to work on defense.with his record age and being the wbc champ is great.
In the process, these opponents will help him getting better, its just that his fights do not generate that much interest for me at the moment. After Callazo he should try to find a more fan friendly opponent where he can shine a little bit. Not saying he should pick a tomato can. There must be something between Steve Forbes kind of guys and tomato cans.:hi:
A little guy like Forbes isn't going to push Berto in regards to his stamina or activity. Forbes was there to survive, he couldn't hurt Berto if Berto let him. I think Clottey gives Berto hell, and Cotto, Margarito, Williams own him. Dibella will keep him safe with Collazo and Judah. But if Arum's smart, he'll move Cotto as Berto's mandatory instead of throwing away Cotto's career in a ill-advised rematch with Tony.
I don't think that's a good idea. Collazo is Berto's mando. So once Berto beats him, he won't have another mandatory defense for a year.
I was impressed and I sided with Merchant also. As much as people think he is in over his head with AM or Williams, the more experience he gets, the more dangerous he is for Williams or AM. He needs some more seasoning, but he is coming along, and is a hard worker. Forbes is no slouch, and has granite in his chin, and defensive skills out thee ass lol. When Berto got hit early, he started making Forbes miss by the mid rounds. Good win over a very respectful opponent. I didn't like that he didn't visibly shake Forbes hand after the fight was over, or go over and talk to him, maybe he did later. Forbes is respected by many of his opponents, and Berto hopefully did go over and talk to the man. Berto seemed disappointed, but he shouldn't be. Berto did show respect by tapping gloves and all...maybe I'm, overrating the situation lol. Good win for Berto. He has to now combine the speed and power. He has all of the speed, and now he has to blend it with more power and technique.
Collazo is another seasoned veteran and would be another good fight for Berto . . . the guy needs more ring experience and he is earning it . . . Forbes is just the start . . . next is Collazo . . . these are much better opponents than his previous ones . . . he is stepping up slowly but surely so why complain. If you're expecting the guy to go straight fighting Cotto, Margarito or Williams then somethings wrong with your head. :deal
i was very impressed there a very few fighters throughout history who through sharp and fast power punches for 12rounds straight without getting gassed.....on top of that he didn't take too many clean punches overall, he's defense has gotten much better.....he looked alot better against forbes then oscar did in my book, honestly i dont think him fighting collazo is necessary, i'd put him over mosley and judah right now the only real question about him now is he chin, he's got alot of stamina, great heart, and equally great speed and power, but i say they bring in a new trainer to develop his boxing ability to match his fighting ability, because there's gonna be some guys out ther (margaritio) who he can't fight in the center of the ring for 12rounds straight but yeah....i see good things for him the future
