cant really say i like him, back in his era he was a good fighter but a very beatable one
-no one can deny that duran and hearns were both shot to pieces when he fought both, yet he was on the verge of being stopped by tommy and lost a decision to a duran who was a shell of the fighter he once was.

He was exposed as just another Ameri-Bum when he eventually fought a world class fighter in Nigel Benn.

if he fought against middleweights of this current era you'd be hard pressed not to favour him against the likes of pavlik etc his power was very good.

  Ameri-bum... I like that a lot.

I'd like to start a thread like "Pavlik is just another Ameri-bum waiting to be exposed like Lacy"

started out as a cutie. with a long jab and left hook...but changed his style to a more aggresive on top of you style. a good showing is him vs olijide. where he originally used his jab and right cross to work ...but later just said **** it and launched left hooks foer the rest of the fight.
people forget that he was a beast. he was a truly scary guy to face. 6'1 and balooned after wieghins.

a mixture of toughness and chin made him hard to drop and even harder to keep him there. iran could of been dropped 30 times against benn and still be there. it was just the stupid wbo 3 knockdown rule.

wasnt he trained by his sister who was one of the premier female amatuer boxers of here day?

well barkley was a cruiserwieght in this fight. was a big inside fighter. who had size and reach on him and was pretty hard to drop unless you swarm him...which toney couldnt/wouldnt do.

he was a stylistic hell hole. if you got cute and tried to box him you would lose. if you wen on the inside he would engulf you...and the way to win was by counterpunching him and using rock solid defence and technique a little off and you would get punished. happend to olajide happend to van horn happend to hearns.

also most peopel dont rank barkley that high but you got to admit that he was a world level challenger who got taken apart by toney who was moving up in wieght it was a big win. dont take it as a great win on paper but a great performance by a master counterpuncher.

Barkley won titles at middleweight, supermiddleweight, lightheavyweight and he is the only man on planet who beat Hearns twice.
A big puncher with a good chin, very tough and mean.
I think he knocks Pavlik the **** out, as stylistically this is a bad matchup for Pavlik. Someone like Calzaghe might outbox him but he better not try to trade punches with him in the process.

So the Ameri-Bum beat a few overrated Yanks? Big deal. If he wanted to prove himself he would have come to Europe to fight the big boys and save Nigel the trouble of having to go all that way to some shithole to embarass him in front of homeboys.

Yes, she had a record I think as 10-2 as a pro, and was great as an amateur.

I like the guy. His style, his left hook, his fearlessness. He was tough, not especially gifted, but tough. His loss to Duran and his KO of The Hitman are the first things that comes to mind when anybody mentions him.

That fight pissed me off-It was the first of several times Benn rabbit-punched his way to victory (he rabbit punched Barkley while he was down, and the rabbit punch was one of his three chief offensive weapons in the McClellan fight-the others were the biased ref and headbutting.)

I just remember when James Toney taxed that ass silly. Honestly, Monster chin, power in both hands, boxes in straight lines, good heart.

Very good fighter, legendary chin, serious power, not much for skills but his heart and will took him places not many expected him to be.

    Definitely deserves respect.
