Sucked for him that he came along at the time that he did. With fighters like oscar, Quartey, and Tito in thier primes and Whitaker at the end of his reign, Carr was also about the sixth or seventh best welterweight in the world. Good enough to almost beat those guys. I thought that he dominated Tito up until he was knocked out. He won some rounds vs Oscar and almost beat Quartey. A few years before or after and he might have picked up a couple of title belts.
Good analysis. I agree that he was completely dominating Trinidad until the BS stoppage. That biased ref had a personal vendetta against Car and Panama Lewis who was training Car at the time. You can tell by how rude he was to Car's corner during the pre fight instructions.:-(
He didnt dominate Trinidad, but he was definitley in the fight. He was competetive with Oscar before getting kod. Thought his fight with Quartey was somewhat close but he loss convincingly. That being said Carr was one of the best fighters of his era too never win a title. Id pick him over Berto and probably Clottey. There are a lot of alphabet champs from the past id pick Carr over. He was a speedy and excellent boxer but also exciting. Very good but no way was he great.
Extremely good fighter but talk about catching a bad break. Title shots aganst arguably the greatest Puerto Rican fighter ever, one of the best Ghanian fighters ever and a prime De La Hoya? What ****in chance have you got? Carr could have been champion had the timing been better!
Yes he dominated Tito before the stoppage. If I remember right he was well ahead on the cards and the fight wasnt in Michigan:hey. He even dropped Tito and hurt him again a few rounds later. It was a dominating performace until he got stopped. Lets not try and rewrite history. Tito won the fight but he was losing badly to that point.
oba high level fighter who never quite climbed the peak an definitly note worthy fighter a more modern version of briscoe,an james "the heat" kinchen finaly a decent thread an you even ruined it with your normal weak attempt to bash a true great fighter TITO is an always will be another level
No i have to disagree watch the fight again. Carr dominated early and did drop Tito but by the 4th Trinidad starting finding his way and slowly breaking him down, i remember having Carr only slightly ahead but the writing was on the wall by the 6th and 7th rounds.
Not going to debate it with you. I never debated with Tito fans when he was fighting and im not going to start now...After all alot of Tito fans thought he actaully won the fight with Oscar and that he was winning the fight with Hopkins before he was stopped:blood
absoultly briscoe was a monster puncher an oba more of boxer but they all got to top but couldnt get over it
