Disappointing. I wanted to like Pascal, he has athleticsm and I thought that he had a little bit of boxing intelligence to make up for his lack of skills and stamina. He fights like he doesn't train boxing much, just lifts some weights and thinks he's ready. I had trouble giving him a round against Hopkins, I thought the knockdowns were BS aswell. People talk about guys like Dirrell running but what about Pascal, he was fighting Hopkins - a guy who isn't a puncher and Pascal was looking like he was running for his life until he gassed out and proceeded to get beaten up for the rest of the fight. I still can't believe Dawson let himself lose to the guy.
I was already calling for suspect scoring going into the championship rounds. I felt something suspect was about to go down and wasn't surprised when it did. My first reaction was that Pascal is not a good strategist like I thought he was. He is gonna have some hard fights from now on against anyone with the physical tools to duplicate what BHOP did to him. Pascal used BHOP's style against Dawson so I wasn't sure if he could against hopkins. Hopkins went on to let Pascal use his style and then went on to show Pascal how to beat the style.
He didn't fight up to his potential. He got suckered into B-Hops game. He didn't seem mentally into the fight for some reason and didn't have that hunger he usually shows. And he didn't let his combinations go, that's usually when he's at his best. He should've pushed the action in spurts with those combos and see how Hopkins reacts.
Hey faded in the dawson fight too.. dawson had the power to knock him out, but not the skills to get there.
They were both not trying to be the aggressor. Team Pascal didn't think BHOP could beat them while coming forward so Pascal would win if he was the one being chased, like they suckered dawson into. Once BHOP showed them that he could come forward and be effective, Team Pascal was dumbfounded with no plan B. Plus around the 5th or 6th round, you could already tell he was thinking about himself gassing down the stretch. All this was the reason for the concern that was written all over his face as he dropped his output and attempted to pace himself. They should be worried about a rematch because Pascal's code was cracked and it's very unlikely he gets off to as good of a start again. Not to mention I think Pascal might be in the early stages of the Jermaine Taylor Desease so it's only a matter of Time till he's KOed late in a fight. If he wasn't holding BHOP so much he may likely have been KOed late.
I don't think he was really overrated, but he is a flawed fighter and that performance bordered on the embarrassing. To get outworked by a near 46 year old Hopkins and run around in your home province is weak. He is lucky that they gave him the favorable judging (scored it for Hopkins but the fight was close due to the early KDs) because had he lost he would be written off. Dawson is going to beat him in his next fight. As a Canadian I was hoping Pascal would rise to the occasion but I found myself rooting for Hopkins. You can't deny greatness.
Surprised he got knocked down and happy he got up but not that he won. Was still speechless at his performance.
I answered accidentally on the poll, but I couldn't believe how lazy Pascal seems and how bad his conditioning is. And I knew they were gonna rob Hopkins.
