It obviously improves his legacy by default since it's another victory and it's one over a prime top 5 opponent in his weight class who's also a title holder.

The title holder means nothing to my criteria. Also, you can't just say 'top five fighter', that only means something if it's achieved in a strong top ten.

    Current 147=Poor.

In close, Ortiz just dragged his right hand across Floyds arms. Abysmal.

    The ending wasent even controvsial.

Ortiz - dropped his hands like a ****** - and looked to his right - away from Floyd and gave Mayweather free shot at his chin.

This isnt a civil - be nice to each other sport - its war - and Mayweather just took advantage.

I dont think Mayweather was a coward for doing what he did.

Some may think it was a cheap shot.

But I just think its the killer instinct - Mayweather wasent really interested in shaking hands and being nice - he just was looking to bang Ortiz on that chin.

Well today's prize is unification. You can't do that without beating titleholders.

    Nah you're overcomplicating things here.

Is it better to be 41-0 or to be 42-0 with the exact same resume plus a ko over ortiz?

By default it's clearly an improvement. How much is up to the individual but his legacy certainly improves.

So if he beats Matt Hatton to move to 43-0 does that improve his legacy as well? Fights like this actually harm it IMO because every fight that isn't against Manny Pacquiao is a fight that should have been.

Is matt hatton a top 5 in his division and or a title holder?

I think too much emphasis is put on pac-floyd. It's kinda like saying every one of dempsey's defences harms his legacy because it was another fight that should have been against wills.

Once you accept floyd is ducking pac, it becomes much easier to enjoy the fights he does make. Especially when they're against title holders and or top 5 divisional fighters.

That is just remarkably cynical. If I accept he's ducking Pac I don't care to watch him fight (unless it's beating up a bellend like Ortiz)

How am I overcomplicating things? I put everything into context when assessing fighters.

Again, 'title holder' means absolutely **** all in this day and age.

Because it is an undoubted improvement. It's the degree of the improvement that is up for debate in my eyes.

And again, the prize today is unification. To reach that goal you have to fight the title holders in your division.

Plenty of boxers don't fight pac and I watch them fight.

He's ducked pac so it's just best to move no and hope he fights credible opponents.

That's no comparison. Other fighters aren't the consensus best fighters of the era.

Jim Lampley opined, “If you’re the best fighter in the world and you like to claim that you’re the best fighter in history, you shouldn’t have to do that.”

Pac is the consensus best of his era. That's not really up for debate.

Floyd has taken himself out of the pac sweepstakes. It's time to move on and accept he won't go down as an elite great. With that in mind, I just like to see the hype he brings to fights. They become an event.
