Iron-jawed punching pressure fighter who won fights with pure aggression and was probably p4p #1 for a spell. His is a fascinating story with a tragic fistic ending. I probably like Peter Jackson a little bit more even but there is no footage of him and I restricted myself here.

Jeffries to me is like Dempsey , I simply don't know how good he was ... even more so in his case .. so much seems fabricated even starting with his size .. to me he appears 6' 1" or so with his 76" reach ... his weight 215 to 220 ... that said, he appears to have been for the time a physical freak as far as natural strength, physical toughness, stamina ... power is hard to gage as on one hand a fifty pound lighter Fitz seemed to be a sharper one shot puncher but Jeffries did have a serious history of hand injuries ... I simply don't know if he was a George Chuvalo in 1900 or a Tommy Morrison with a chin ... then the absolute fact that he really had very few professional bouts ....

You brought up Schmeling and Dempsey so my comment is even shorter.

I'd add Walcott to that list. Brilliant all round fighter. Skill, stamina, power and confidence.

This thread is confusing me.The original post said name your top 10 favourite heavyweights outside the all time top 10 list.It seems to me that everybody is rating the next best 10 in line not favourites.Anyway here is my favourites
    Jerry Quarry
    George Chuvalo
    Ron Lyle
    Earnie Shavers
    Gary Mason
    Ken Norton
    Max Bear
    Danny Williams
    Donovan Ruddock
    Tommy Morrison

I think some people are doing that but most people are naming their genuine favourites. I don’t think most people seriously think Morrison or Chagev are top 20 all time.

Well to me they are all well known names and the vast majority are choosing former champions but if they are their favourites its fine

Jimmy Young - Super talented fighter who, after losing decisions in the big fights against Norton and Ali, was demotivated and continued boxing only for the money
Jerry Quarry - Terrific record, good counter puncher. He probably would've been an actual top 10 if he didn't cut/bleed so easily
Max Baer - I like both the man and the fighter; kind-hearted and funny guy outside the ring, but inside the ring he was an absolute beast albeit one who didn't care too much for the sweet science and just went in for the knockouts
Jack Sharkey - His career had tons of ups and downs, the guy was really inconsistent and unpredictable. But, when he was game he was a world class fighter
Young Stribling - Weird choice I know, but I like his feints very much, they remind me of Moore's fake-outs which lead to his brutal knockouts.

    Holyfield
    Norton
    Patterson
    Schmeling
    Tunney
    Walcott

    Honorable Mention:
    Cooper
    Williams

None are in my top 20 although some are close. And we’re talking favorite not necessarily best, correct?

Joe Goddard - Started late, had an aversion to training, had an appreciation of drink, could punch like a mule. Drew with prime Peter Jackson, KO'd Maher, Choynski, Dener Ed Smith. Won World Heavy Title from Denver Ed Smith (don't believe BoxRec).

Jack Dempsey - Print the legend. A career that can not be duplicated. Right talent, right time, right place. Barely outside the Top 10.

Rocky Marciano - Fun to watch him beat up old men.

Tony Tubbs - Hyper talented. Mean streak. Fat streak.

David Tua - Everybody likes the guy with the ultimate equalizer.

I think Usyk makes the list. I like the guy. He really is something, isn't he?

He has some nice scalps on his ledger and very well might have another soon against Fury.

Rarest of breeds if that happens---undefeated and undisputed champion in 2 divisions. In the land of 4 titles. But even with those accomplishments he very well could be on the outside of the 10 best heavies. But not by much. Another guy that very well be might become better appreciated > he retires. But he had that high pedigree as an amatuer and worked hard to continue improving.
