very nice list and good grouping, though I think Patterson is well outside such lists. Winning titles is one thing, but being able to sustain them consistantly among the true top men is quite another thing and Paterson would lose to all above regularly and many more in the HWs long history!

This was not a H2H list, but real life....if it were Hypothetical Frazier would have been #1, as only Foreman and Liston stand a chance with 69 Frazier!

Back to Patterson, he certainly is a top 25 likely top 20 potentially/arguably top 15 ATG based on accomplishment.

On any given night, any of the greats could have beaten each other.

If there was a league table, at the end of every season, Ali would have the most points and win first place.

Ali, win lose or draw would make a fight out of it everytime

Whereas the others have shown vulnerabilities which could/would cost them against certain fighters

Lewis chin, Tysons mindset just relying on one punch, Holyfields addiction to brawling, Wlads chin, Holmes weakness for the right hand, Bowes eating habits etc.

Well, I'll have to think about my current One-thru-Ten -- I'm sure it will include Sullivan, Jeffries, Johnson, Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Ali, and Holmes.

I picked Ali as #1 in the poll, even though Louis is a plausible choice as well as being my favorite boxer.

It is amazing that Ali is talked about as having possibly the fewest weaknesses H2H & is easily #1, & I voted for him too. When he was the LEAST complete in terms of overall skills. Tell me what I foget: basic skills likecould not block or parry & leaned back from punches, could/did not fight on the inside, almost never went to the body/headhunter without great power, fairly fragile hands, vulnerable to a great counter-puncher & the left hook...

It goes to show that the whole is sometimes greater than the sum of its parts.

I will leave out the name calling and insults.....why are you here? Most people have come to the "classic" forum to discuss the history of boxing and how it has evolved through the years. Most of us discuss and debate and have varied opinions and every once in a while a heated exchange occurs....But you have no respect for pre 60 (Likely pre-80) boxing...and honestly that is fine...to each their own....but there is a forum called "boxing forum" (referred to here as general) where modern boxing is the topic....If you don't care about, take serious the past...why are you here?

Personally I don't care either way...the only problem you cause me is having to scroll another 3-4 inches (numbers that are likely familiar to you) to get to a relevant post...Not majorly concerned...just curious?
