I say Tysons prime is 1986-1997, his peak is 1986-1991. BUT - I very much agree that teh Holyfield who beat old Foreman would destroy peak Tyson. TBH I favour Holyfield of 1989-1999 over any version of Mike Tyson. Evander just had Tyson's number written in his phone-book, plain and simple..
I agree. Speaking of Holyfield v Old Foreman, I watched it earlier today. Foreman took some hellish combinations. His defence was terrible but it was a great display of punch resistance from him.
1 Joe Louis 2 Nicolai Valuev 3 Muhammad Ali 4 Rocky Marciano 5 George Foreman 6 John Ruiz 7 Joe Frazier 8 David Haye 9 Mike Tyson 10 Evander Holyfield 11 Lennox Lewis 12 Audley Harrison 13 Sonny Liston 14 Gene Tunney 15 Max Baer
Awful list. Ruiz and Haye are joke inclusions, Baer shouldn't be in there either, Lewis is too low, so is Liston. And where are Jeffries and Johnson? Harrison and Valuev should both be higher.
Okay, on the classic sticky thread, where we all had to give in our top ten in each of the classic eight divisions, my list was this- 1. Muhammad Ali 2. Joe Louis 3. Jack Johnson 4. Rocky Marciano 5. Lennox Lewis 6. Mike Tyson 7. Larry Holmes 8. George Foreman 9. Jack Dempsey 10. Sonny Liston this is actually a long standing list that i've had for years My five to round off would likely be the likes of Holyfield, Jeffries, the next three could be any from Frazier, Patterson, Wills, Schmeling, Sharkey. Wlad might enter but i really don't rate him too highly h2h or resume-wise personally. I always rated Vitali a bit better h2h but the resume doesn't really stack up either imo, but i iunderstand you could do that with a lot of fighters. Anyway, my more important point that i'd like to make is that i've been questioning my list a lot and i really need to totally reconstruct it. Ali is my number one always, when people don't have him at number one i always think it's an agenda thing, i even went through a phase of that myself when i first got into boxing heavily. The fact is, his resume is outstanding, and not just 'for a heavyweight', which i dson't understand the shitty meaning of. So, Louis is my number 2 still. Now it gets messy, i'm a life long Tyson fan, i love the ground he walks on, but he can't be above Lewis, the whole thing about him being not prime by the time he got destroyed by Douglas is embarrassing. Dempsey isprobably not top ten either, and Holyfield probably is. Foreman cannot be under Frazier, no way. Harry Wills should be included in all lists, and i think Jack Johnson should be very high. I just don't know anymore, i need to make a new list, but i hate lists. Just thought i'd contribute to your thread anyway though.
marciano is way to high at 3, he should be in the lower half of the top 10. Size and skill wise he dosen't measure up to the elite and would have been beaten by 90-95 of the 15 ATG.
Agreed. :thumbsup Old Foreman showed he had a super-iron chin, great heart And toughness like a rock in that brutal WAR with Holyfield. How did you score the fight? I had it at 9-3 for Holyfield.
Muhammed Ali Rocky Marciano Joe Luis George Foreman Mike Tyson Lennox Lewis Larry Holmes Joe Frazier Riddick Bowe Evander Holyfield Jack Johnson Vitali Klitschko Sonny Liston Jack Dempsey Wladimir Klitschko
