Wladimir Klitschko Vs David Haye for the Heavyweight title. Antonio Margarito Vs Floyd Mayweather for the Welterweight title. Ricky Hatton Vs Manny Pacquio for the Light Welterweight title.
IMO 1 million ppv buys does not get boxing moving anywhere whatsoever. good for boxers and promoters but for getting boxing going. not a chance. boxing needs free to air tv to make boxing mainstream. look at the shelves in the newsagents now. you have 10 magazines on bmx riding and 10 on sailing your 1 million pound yaught in a race and tucked away if you look very hard you might find one on boxing if that newsagent chain bothers to stock it.
Pacquaio v Hatton Pavlik v Kessler (though BH has taken the shine off it a tad) FMJ v Cotto, Margo or Williams Good thread by the way.
wake up! the mega fights getting over a million ppv buys are the ones making cover stories of sports illustrated, espn magazine, and newspapers everywhere! ...obviously, publicity helps boxing. mega fights help boxing. ....and i believe mega fights can still happen without de la hoya's involvement.
1. Tyson vs Holyfield III 2. Lennox vs Vitali II 3. Hatton vs Pacman These are not fights I would like to see, apart from number 3, but they are some big fights that COULD be made.
Pacman vs Mayweather - If this fight happens it will probably become the biggest fight in boxing history. This can be bigger than the delahoya-mayweather fight. Both are in their prime and it can be the battle for the # 1 Lb 4 Lb today. Israel Vazquez vs Juan Manuel Lopez- This is the fight i want to see happens next year. Ricky Hatton vs Miguel Cotto - hatton's farewell fight .. This is a good match up in my opinion. Both are 5'7 and pretty much even in every way. Both love to brawl and throw body shots. It might be a fight of the year candidate.
My top 3 fights would be...... Mayweather/Pacquiao - Top 2 p4pers going at it, I need not say anything else. Klitschko/Klitschko - Even tho I rarely watch HWTs, this would fascinate me very much + they actually are the top 2 HWTs. Morales/Barrera 4 - Both are way past their best but how fitting would it be for them to have a fight for a vacant 135 lb title be, they would be the only men in boxing history to fight 4 times at 4 different weights & the winner would become the 1st Mexican born boxer to win titles in 4 weights. Then both retire for good, stuff of legends.
One more co-signature :good We don't agree that often, but these are three excellent fights for 2009. Calzaghe-Dawson would be #4 on the list.
