Please give reasons for your choices.

    Mine are...

    Overated (in no order):

Calzaghe - who did he ever beat that was worth a damm, or wasn't shot or old or a mediocre title holder? Not the stuff of ATG's, IMO.

Barrera - got outboxed and lost twice to Junior Jones. Scoring aside, probably should have lost his trilogy against Morales. KO'd by Pacquaio in his prime. Gets too much credit for beating a past-prime, disinterested Hamed. A very good fighter, and a warrior, but overrated I feel.

Whitaker - Supremely talented fighter, but doesn't quite have the resume to match his talents.

    Underrated (in no order)

Calzaghe - very consistent with a long title reign. Beat a lot of solid contenders and champions. Has a win over an ATG on his record.

Lewis - Tricky one, gets a lot of love and respect. But there are still some doubters, which I find odd. Has a GREAT resume and wins over the best guys to come before (Holyfield) and after (Vitali) him.

Mayweather - has a better resume than Whitaker, and is almost as talented. High level of consistency, tested against a diverse array of fighters. Gets **** for who he chooses to fight, probably not totally undeserved, but no one should be able to credibly question his skills or ability.

Its not the difficult to "get" is it?

This is a thread about perceptions. Many people seem to regard Calzaghe as either an ATG, or a total fraud. The reality is, he's neither.

Whitaker doesn't have the resume to match his ability?? :huh

Convincing wins over ATG Chavez and ATG Nelson?

Either a win or a very very close call to absolute prime ATG De La Hoya when Pernell was years past-prime and 2 divisions above his prime weight?

Convincing wins over proven world level technicians like Buddy McGirt and Jose Luis Ramirez?

Wins over a host of other world champions like Greg Haugen and Julio Cesar Vasquez?

Whitaker beat the best of his era and looked sensational doing so. He has one of the very best resumes of the last 25 years.

I wouldn't say Mayweather has a better resume, Pea's schooling of Chavez trumps anything on Floyd's resume, hands down.

Rightly or wrongly, Whitaker only has a single win over a solitary ATG, and a few other notables. That doesn't qualify him as having "one of the very best resumes of the last 25 years". In fact, as I said, being the supremely gifted fighter that he was, Whitaker's resume doesn't compliment that talent. Which makes him "overrated" in the sense that many of us assume his resume is better than it actually is.

Sorry to comment on this same post for a third time, but Barrera clearly won the first and third Morales fights.

I dunno what you were thinking with this post.
