Your Top 3 most underated/overrated fighters of the last 25 years?

You are a good poster, but it has become clear you are debating a fighter you have not seen fight, so it's pointless.

Not even a Floyd Mayweather fan would say he has a great jab. He has a good jab, but it is unremarkable, it's not even something he relies on very much.

Pernell Whitaker is a live contender for the best jab in history. Anyone who had watched him through his peak would know that. He was like a lightweight Larry Holmes in this regard, he had the most varied and effective rifle-like jab you'll ever see, and threw it often and with success at numerous weights.

All three are on par with im in boxing ability.....Floyd now is one punch but in his lighter weights showed a large arsenal.....look im not ouotright saying all three are better but got damn you right out the gate seemed to think they dont come close.....thats what i mean by OVERRATING this answer is debatable because i believe all three are on par or better in terms of BOXING ABILITY.

 

Nice post. Anyone ranking Lewis as the hw GOAT is indeed guilty of extreme overrating. Ali had the better career, better ability, and would have beaten him had they fought.

 

I disagree. Whitaker proved to be better than Floyd, who is an over-cautious pot-shotter. Whitaker had better ability, and is not overrated, he deserves the rating he gets.

and i see what your sayin Sweet is absolutely hands down great but he still had his flaws so head to head i couldnt just say he would whoop Floyds ass like some would say.

 

At 135 he lost to Castillo, then sneaked the decision in the rematch. Does that prove he was better than Whitaker??

What would Whitaker have done to Castillo?? See Chavez fight. Except easier.

 

What flaws? You're saying it just for the sake of it, to be contrary. Other than a lack of power (which didn't affect his overall effectiveness in a major way considering the way he fought), what were these flaws? Whitaker, like Leonard and Robinson, is the closest it gets to perfect.

 

nope it doesnt and the second fight he clearly won. Also it is understood floyd had a torn rotator cuff in the first fight.

Floyd has no losses either....you cant miscontrue FACTS with how you feel...they are still facts! Is Sweets resume better yup...ahead of him on the ATG by far....head to head...on par!

Along with Robinson and Leonard and the like, he is as close as it gets to perfect.

I don't know what the connection is between a zero and the GOAT though - Robinson is generally accepted to be the GOAT and he has losses. Only children think a zero = greatness.

 

Nah. If Castillo could beat Mayweather, and a past-prime Oscar could take him to an SD, then Floyd doesn't have a hope against a guy who embarrassed Chavez and Nelson.

As for things Pernell does better than Floyd?

Defense, movement (both defensive and offensive), footwork, inside fighting, body work, variety of offense, workrate, composite punching, etc. And as I said about Floyd, arguably handspeed (Id almost put this as a wash...tho its perfectly ok to argue either way in my opinion).
