Not sure if McFarland is underrated as much as he is under appreciated and under discussed. But a well deserved mention

99.9% of those called "FloMay is a top 10 all time" types have never even heard of McFarland.

    Three of my favourites.

    My list:
Midget Wolgast (Legend ATG who is almost never mentioned)
Tommy Loughran (I've really gotten into him recently)
    Joe Brown (legendary lightweight)

There's way more than 3 to mention.

Outside of the forums, Ezzard probably is the most underrated actually, good call.

    Eddie Perkins
    Nino Benvenuti
    Betulio Gonzales

A lot of the names I read here may be overlooked by the general public, but then again the general public doesn't really talk about boxing anymore in any capacity. Napoles, Lamotta, etc. are legends here, and deservedly so. Don't really see them as underrated.

Really good list. I like the Holmes shout out. He wasn't on the level of Starling and Kulambey but he could really fight.

I was actually ringside when Holmes won the title from Quincy Taylor. It was early on the undercard of Tyson Bruno II, and there was almost nobody in the stands. They threw simultaneous hooks. Unfortunately for Taylor, Holmes' right hook landed before Taylor's right hook, and, BOOM! Taylor basically absorbed the force of both blows and went down hard. To Taylor's credit, he somehow got up. But, it was stopped shortly after that. The fight was pretty even up to that point.

in recent times anyway, go with Erdei. Guy was really a top notch boxer.

Maybe go with another universum guy at cruiser, JC Gomez next. He was a force at his division and had a ton of defenses. Problem was both of those guys were part of the who needs this guy type opponent. Third would be the road warrior, Brian Mitchell---toughest thing to do in the sport is to continually win in the other guy's backyard.
