Nothing wrong with seeing one ATG heavyweight thrash other ATG heavyweight. Kinda of like Foreman Frazier.
That wasnt an all time great thrashing another all time great, that was a peak all time great thrashing a 40 year old coming out of retirement who already had parkison's. Addie's right if you enjoyed watching that your sadistic
Schmeling relly started putting the beat on Louis after the knockdown in round 4. Louis had a few movements here or there, but for the most part it was a pretty one sided beating.
Most people called Ali a boxing god, so no matter what age he was, he was the Godlike Ali. Hell Ali was the betting favor going into the Holmes fight.
A great, disciplined performance by Schmeling, I don't care how he fared in the rematch,,the point was that Max engineered a well thought out, strategic battle plan that he executed with skill and confidence. The politics of the time and the evil Nazi regime that ruled the country where Max came from was the cause for him recieving only grudgingly and in fairly recent times, the credit he deserved for fearlessly facing down a guy who was making his opponents practically **** on themselves even before they would get destroyed in the ring by the Brown Bomber.
Schmeling fought a close to near perfect fight in the first fight. He counter Louis all night with the jab, right hand, and combos. He would trick Louis with a few jabs, than land the right. He force Louis to drop his guard imo, I know people like to claim Louis did it on his own, but Schmeling force it with his counter puncher.
