Something to note about Napoles. He was far from one-dimensional as far as the pace he could fight at, he was very capable of firing it out with the best of them. He just had more dimensions to his game, and his ring generalship was so good that he was often able to keep the fight at his set pace. He'd more than likely land the cleaner shots on the much wilder, off balance Pryor, though in a bang out Pryor would definitely have the ability to bust Napoles's face up. Very tough fight to call for me as well.

Superb match-up. Can Napoles, with his smooth style, handle Pryor's pressure? Both have power, Pryor had a great chin though, I don't think 'Mantequilla' would KO him. I take Pryor by stoppage on cuts, around 10.

    .

Another interesting match-up. I'll take Harada on the basis that his bouncy, high volume punching style - always throwing the jab, always circling - once helped him upset the great Eder Jofre. I think he would outpoint the tough Fenech.

This would be a tough fight for Sugar Ray. While he was the quicker fighter, Griffith was quick himself, he was alert and had a bit of power. Leonard had a very good chin though, I think Griffith would have to outpoint him, which against Leonard, is very, very difficult.

Wow. What an absolute war this fight would be. Both pack a huge punch, both were a bit susceptible to getting knocked out. It depends entirely who gives in first. Both the same size aswell, I take Gomez, I feel he was slightly the bigger puncher, and probably had the better chin. Could go either way though. It ends fairly early for me.

Another war. Close in terms of power and durability. I feel Duran's crudeness, superior inside-fighting ability would be the key. I don't feel he stops Chavez, but he gives and takes some good shots on his way to a decision.

    All excellent choices. :good

I wont use the same fighter twice.....

    5. Robinson v Hagler

SRRs long range boxing & speed + his ability to hang with Marvin inside enable him to take this one by close UD, as long as we are talking the pre Turpin SRR then he would be just too good a fighter all round IMO but certainly no mismatch, what a war -
    Robinson W15 UD Hagler.

    4. Marciano v Frazier

Order a phone booth for this bloodbath, after falling behind early, I think the extra weight advantage in Fraziers favour comes into play in the last 3 or 4 rds & he pulls out a super close decision, inside war all the way -
    Frazier W15 SD Marciano.

    3. Duran v Whitaker

Just to solve many many ESB arguments & determine the best LWT ever, I feel Durans power & Pea`s lack of power will be the ultimate deciding point, especially thru 15 rds, I expect Pea to have a slight edge from the outside but Duran will be right there with him landing harder but once inside, as underrated as Pea is inside I still expect Duran to bully him & land the much more telling blows -
    Duran W15 UD Whitaker.

    2. Morales v Hamed

If not for Naz calling out MAB, this would have happened.
Depends how Erik fights, if he boxes, he wins about 8-4 or 9-3, if he fights, we get a crazy ass bloody fight likely ending in a TKO. I`ll assume Morales will box while fighting in spells much like vs Pac the 1st time -
    Morales W12 UD Hamed.

    1. Pryor v Chavez

My fav used to be Duran/Chavez but its been done too many times.
This is to decide the best ever 140 lber & I see Chavez handling Pryors outside game quite well but still dropping most early rds due to fighting at a more controlled pace but slowly getting inside & pulling himself just about level by rd 12, I see JCC soaking up Pryors head shots easier than I see Pryor taking JCCs body shots in the championship rds, both are tough as nails but Chavez just keeps coming to close the show in 1 of the ATG fights -
    Chavez W15 UD Pryor

There is many more but thread rules are thread rules.

Ill replay to yours Butch because its closer

I actually think Hagler would be a very hard style matchup for SRR. He was the natural middleweight, his defensive ability and chin sorta negate Robinson's fight changing power and I think Hagler is quick enough to hang with Robinson's speed.
In a trilogy Id take Hagler to tought out the first...Robinson to edge to next two.

I would give the edge to Frazier but he would need to fight one of his tactically best fights to deal with the raw aggression and durability of Marciano. Frazier at his best takes it clearly but with a few bumps and bruises for his trouble, anything less then his best Marciano may well capitlize.

Duran via split decision over Sweet Pea..As you said Butch, power will pay a key role in how the rounds play out. I honestly see this being so competitive that the scores vary by quite wide margins, as the judges battle to decide whether Duran's aggression is worth more than Sweet Pea's smooth defence and counter punching.

In a word Morales...Hamed is always a massive punchers chance but against a warrior with extreme ring intelligence like Morales I think he mentally implodes and just fights to survive with the odd bomb getting through as he attempts to turn the tide with one punch.

Maybe its against all reason but Ive gotta go with Pryor there in a close one. I think Chavez was less destructive at jnr welter then he was at 130-135 and if its a physical fight, there is very few who match Pryor at this weight.
Chavez is technically more proficient in many ways but I think the Hawk just jumps him with his strength and power, and despite a late surge from Chavez holds on to bag the win. I cant help but think how hard Pryor did it against Arguello but I just feel he can take this one.

Another one I wanted to mention is

Roy Jones vs M Spinks @ 175....I have always picked Spinks here but speed kills, and Roy knew how to use his. There is no reason to think that Roy cant hit Spinks more then he gets hit, just by fighting conservatively and getting the fight into a one shot shootout.
I still always go with Spinks, I just think he is naturally the better fighter at 175 but a real hard fought match this one.

Man, I think Burley-Robinson is the most common pick in this thread.

    Word up!

Call me crazy but when I watch Jose Napoles I see the combination of two boxing cultures.

The athletic, fluid style of Cuba mixed with the blood & guts uncompromising approach of the Mexicans.

By the time he was in his prime he seemed to have smoothly combined both to almost have an answer for anything.

I would match Sammy Langford with Charley Burley at 160; the ultimate offence verses defence match-up.

Henry Armstrong verses Sandy Saddler in a fun fight at 130.

Ray Robinson verses Ray Leonard at 147.

Benny Leonard verses Roberto Duran to see who was King of the 135lbers.

And Finally how about Terry McGovern verses Jeff Fenech at 118?
