I don’t have Tito in the top 5 either but disparaging his victories is unnecessary. You think Mayweather’s wins are better - it’s debatable, of course, but a valid argument - and that he should be rated above Tito? That’s fine. But the two things don’t have to mutually exclusive. You can rate both but just rate one more than the other.

Anyway, what’s your top 5? Interested to see it now as it might be a bit different from what we’ve seen so far.

I’m not disparaging Tito’s wins. There’s definitely a level that exists above Reid and Vargas, hence they’re B+ wins. And yes Mayweather’s three is definitely better as a package.

I’m at work, so I can’t make a list. But 154 in general is a place where outstanding fighters like Mayweather or Hearns make a pitstop or lesser fighters like Lara and Winky Wright camp out for a decade and make a resume.

I think Canelo at 154 is actually decent shout, I'd actually forgot some of his wins vs Lara, Trout, etc.

I think you can have Lara above Alvarez. He arguably beat Alvarez, they share a few common opponents in Trout and Angulo, and then it's a comparison of depth which Lara has more of, although Alvarez has the best name--albeit a loss--in Mayweather on his ledger. I happen to think Lara would have done better against Mayweather.

Canelo would’ve destroyed Hurd and he has a W over Lara. Lara doesn’t deserve to be ahead, but he’s solid.

Robinson (easily could have made this weight and likely fought here many times in his prime)

    McCallum
    Hearns
    Wright
    Benitez
    Jackson
    Norris

Yeah, Robinson could have but he never officially fought in the weight class so he’s not included.

Very good names, I would agree. I would put Norris in the honorable mentions, but generally this is how I see it. I would put Benitez in the top guys.

You never cease to amaze me.

Canelo should be in ANY TOP 5 conversation at 154?

What kind of mind altering drugs have you consumed this week?

Why on earth would he be there?

    Based on what??

Regarding Floyd, everybody knows how great he was.

On a H2H basis, in terms of ability, you could make a case for top 10.

However, the reality is: He beat 2 faded fighters there, as well as a young version of Canelo, where he wouldn’t allow him to weigh-in at the limit.

You need to read the rest of these comments and educate yourself on the division and the fighters.

    Okay.

So then how does Canelo make it that high?

He got washed by Floyd and he barely beat Lara and Trout.

He had neither the ability or the resume to be ranked anywhere near the top 5.

So please enlighten us all with your great knowledge.

Hearns is the standout top dog for mine. His incredible decimation of Duran is easily the best win in the history of the division and the clinic over Benitez is way up there as well. Add a few reasonable defenses and he's the man.

McCallum i'd have two. Tho Jackson was a bit green and inexperienced the win has aged well and is a good one. The win over crossroads Curry who everyone simply assumed would regather and continue his journey to better things was also a good one and he slid a few other fair defenses in. Doesn't match Hearns tho.

There's a gap to the rest. Norris is an awkward one. He's got a few name son there but they were almost all on the way down, rebounding or smaller guys who had come up. He also got pumped by Jackson, was pole axed by a welter on the rebound and has those ugly DQ losses which were always an outside chance of happening. He's got loads of longevity tho. Winky's got longevity and was solid after he hit his straps but his resume doesn't overwhelm.

    Hearns
    McCallum
    Norris
    Winky
    Jackson

There's a big fight tonight and you're gonna end up unreasonably sad or happy once it's over.

Ahh, you’re playing the ‘he hates Canelo’ card.

Didn’t see that coming. (that’s sarcasm by the way)

This is why you’re such a poor poster.

You type absolute nonsense that has zero logic, yet when you get questioned on it, you then pull out the bias/hater card.

I have no issue with Canelo.

    The issue is with YOU.

Canelo deserves huge credit for fighting Bivol, and if he wins legitimately then he deserves even more.

    Back on topic.

Canelo is a great fighter today.

He wasn’t a great fighter at JMW nearly 10 years ago.

He barely beat Lara and Trout and he got washed by Floyd.

So how on earth could he possibly rank in the top 5 JMW’s of ALL TIME?

Explain how you can rank him so highly.

Cheers Jel. Once you get under Norris it opens right up IMO. There's a handful of guys to shuffle into those last two spots.
