Post your 5 top 5 UFC fights and a sentance or two explaining why. There's no right or wrong in this thread, just post your favourites. Hopefully the 20+ regular poster will each post thier 5 1 Royce Gracie v Ken Shamrock. Arguably the 1st MMA super fight, and it demonstrated the power of joo jeeetsoo my friends 2 Frank Shamrock v Tito Ortiz. My favourite comeback of all time 3 Tank Abbot v Don Frye. Don got his ass whooped, then pulled out the submission. Short, but definately not sweet 4 Wanderlei Silva v Chuck Liddel. Maybe both were slightly past their best, but an MMA Mega fight that certainly didnt disapoint 5 Dan Henderson v Shogun Rua An absolute WAR between total veterans and ATG's So Ive picked the fights that got me into MMA, nd confirmed my love for the sport. So please post yours and a few sentances as to why.
Marco Ruas vs Paul Varelans - I was a kid, watching that....and I went crazy, was awesome........... Emmanuel Yarborough vs Keith Hackney - Call me an idiot.....but this is the first fight I show to my friends... and until today every single one of them loved it !! :conf Rodrigo Minotauro vs Randy Couture - Skill, guts and heart by both......loved it. Dan Henderson vs Shogun - Exciting, and amazing.....legends !! Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin - One of best performance of all time.....I was shocked that day.
Shogun v Hendo is getting a little overrated.......... the hype was a bit more then the fight itself......... good fight no doubt but not a classic.
gif from Mo's comeback fight at age 50. This content is protected Maurice Smith vs Mark Coleman UFC 14- Maurice Smith had made a loud noise in the early days of the no-holds barred era of the UFC by TKO'ing Conan Silviera in the Extreme Fighting Championship. When EFC owner John Peretti was brought over to help with promotion and matchmaking in the UFC, the first thing he did was set up a fight between Mo Smith and the man credited for patenting "ground and pound" Mark "The Hammer" Coleman. There's a saying that no matter how big, mean and bad you are that there's always someone else who that much bigger, that much meaner and that much more bad - and that man was Mark "The Hammer" Coleman. Coleman exploded on the scene by dominating UFC 10 and 11 back to back. He was so dominant in fact that he never had to fight in the finals for UFC 11 because he had no opponents to fight. All of the fighters and their alternates had been eliminated from the tournament by fighters or injuries. Coleman was the last man standing. He seemed invincible with his powerful HGH fueled double leg that often lead to a vicious mount position where elbows and headbutts would then rain down. Coleman was a monster in every sense of the word and represented a complete 180* change from the days when the lithe, quiet Royce Gracie ruled the UFC with strange magical techniques - not brute force. UFC 14 The Showdown pitted the world's greatest MMA striker against it's most powerful wrestler in true grappler vs striker fashion. What fans saw was not only the end of the Grappler-dominated Era but a step closer to what would become mixed martial arts. Maurice Smith was a K1 level kickboxing world champion BEFORE there was a K1. He fought everyone from Don The Dragon Wilson to Stan the Man Longinidus. He was so good in fact that he was one of the champions invited to the inaugural K1 event. Maurice knew kickboxing inside and out but he wanted to compete in other fighting sports. He didn't jump right from the fire of the kickboxing ring to the cage right away. He worked his way through the Japanese Pancrase organization to give himself time to learn the groundfighting techniques. It was here that he began working with Ken and Frank Shamrock. Mo can be seen at the UFC as early as UFC 5 where he walked Ken Shamrock to the ring as part of his entourage. Mo went from the Pancrase no closed fist style matches to the anything goes rings of Peretti's Extreme Fighting Championship. It was in his title fight against Conan Silviera that Mo showed footwork, takedown defense, and ground defense when put on his back. In the later rounds he showed that he could weather the storm and get back to his feet where his kickboxing reigned supreme. Maurice Smith had to weather fourteen minutes of ground and pound from Mark Coleman before he was able to get back to his feet. Once he was back on his feet he was able to keep Coleman on the end of his punches and leg kicks for the remainder of the fight. This was still the no holds barred era of the UFC so Maurice had to contend with the fact that there were no rounds and no standups and if he was trapped beneath his opponent that he could potentially remain there for the remainder of the fight. Once Mo hit his feet he took the center of the ring and targeted Coleman with single shots and occasional combos for the rest of the night. Coleman was so fatigued from trying to finish Maurice during his opening flurry that he could do little more than stand there and take the punches. His knees were irrevocably damaged in this fight. Maurice outlasted Coleman over the thirtyminute time limit to becom the first unified MMA champion and only the second man to ever officially be named as the UFC Heavyweight Champion. And that is why I like that fight. Others: hendo/shogun machida/evans Penn/Hughes 1 Couture/Liddell 1
I'm not gonna make a list nor give a reason but.... Have people forgottin about Karo VS Diego? That is my favortie MMA fight ever.
Good lists so far, :good Mine in no particular order: Karo Parisyan vs. Diego Sanchez- Absolute war, great fight, remember seeing it on Spike in awe of such a good non-PPV fight, Classic fight Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar- The fight that defined both fighters careers, this fight took the UFC to another level for me. I know alot of people think this fight was over rated, but pure entertainment value, I dont care that they werent elite fighters at the time, it was entertaining as hell. Pete Sell Vs Scott Smith- Slugfest with one of the greatest "did that really just happen" finishes in MMA history. Frankie Edgar vs. Tyson Griffin- Excellent fight that I plan on rewatching soon. Silva vs. Sonnen - What a finish, I thought i was in a dream watching that fight, very unexpected performance.
Silva/Sonnen Edgar/Maynard III Maia/MacDonald Jones/Shogun then it's a bit of a tie between Hendo/Shogun, Wand/Chuck and a few others I'm sure I can't think of.
