Your top ten Welsh fighters/wtf is going on with the Welsh?

    Welsh fighters are special, p4p must be the number one nation on earth? 3 million people and they birth Freddie Welsh, Joe Calzaghe, Jimmy Wilde, Tommy West, Jim Driscoll, and look at their chins: all granite (or very good). They just routinely produced over the course of a century very, very special fighters in excess to the likes of Ireland and Scotland and Denmark, you know, countries of comparable populations who have some interest in fighting.

    Why? Anyone wonder, what you think?

    And are you game for kicking together a top ten p4p Welshmen?

    Finally, if you're feeling brave, where do you think Benny Lynch and Ken Buchanan would rank if they were Welsh?

    The Welsh are ridiculously strong when it comes to boxing.

    Your named recipients in the OP were the five who came to my mind upon reading the title, as well as Brian Curvis and Tommy Farr. Probably lack the knowledge for a solid top ten, but I'd rank those seven as follows:

    Jimmy Wilde
    Freddie Welsh
    Jim Driscoll
    Joe Calzaghe
    Tommy West
    Tommy Farr
    Brian Curvis

    I'd have Lynch in third place and Buchanan in fifth. Just for shits and giggles, I'd have Jackie Peterson just below Buchanan as well. Throw in England's top guys like Fitz, Berg, Turpin, and both Lewis's, and are isles have produced some really impressive fighters.

    Wales especially has some brilliant talent.

    Fully agree with your inputs, not sure West warrants being bookended with Calzaghe and Farr, but who knows. keep well.

    Welsh boxing mirrors Welsh rugby insofar as the rugby team is consistently brilliant despite being such a small nation.

    I wonder, seriously, if such intensive mining from so early in their modern history has anything to do with it.
