He was caught once against McCrory in the mid-rounds and briefly stunned (definitely because he was drained because McCrory couldn't punch for ****) and apart from that basically outhustled him all night and overwhelmed him. A good win. The guys that really hurt him anywhere near his best were all heavy handed; Martinez, Villasana, Nelson. With his style there's no doubt to me that he was extremely resilient, except for the odd rub of the nose, which seemed to be his way of saying 'that was a good one' :D

He beat enough quality fighters at enough weights in his short prime and displayed all facets of fighting between the ropes. He is undoubtedly a great fighter.

One of my all time favourite fighters.

Fenech fought at such a pace never seen before since the days of Harry Greb and Henry Armstrong. Also without a doubt the strongest Super Bantam weight and most probably Featherweight there ever was.

You never saw Fenech come into a fight in less than 100% condition and thrived in the heat of battle.

How do you guys see him doing against the elite of 118lbs and 126lbs??

and against Wilfredo Gomez at 122lbs?

I wouldn't pick him against Gomez.

Nor against Sanchez, Saldivar, Marcel, Saddler and Danny Lopez.

Reckon he could knock off Pedroza, Winstone and Famechon.

Just imagine him against Rocky Lockridge...sheeeit.

But I think he does beat Morales, Barrera, Hamed, John and 122-126 Pac...Manny and Naz a decent punchers chance but I give Fenech a clear edge...Morales and Barerra you could argue over him, I just see it the other way...I think JMM probably would pip him.

He'd beat JMM, Barrera, Morales and Pac' IMO.

Yeah, he'd beat Pedroza as well.

Gomez at 122 is the hardest to pick.

Sal' Sanchez would win a close decision.

Lopez has the same punchers chance with Fenech he has with anyone. That's it.

Fenech is a horrific matchup for most between 118-126, and quite a few at 130. He could box, he carried a fair dig when his hands weren't wrecked, oh, and he wasn't too bad as an aggressor either ;-)

If he is it's not by much. Floyd is nowhere near the top 50 fighters of all time. I don't have Fenech in the top 100. But Floyd barely makes the top 100 for me either.

I think if Fenech had retired post-Nelson II this would be less of a debate. His late career losses hurt him.

How about guys like Jofre, Olivares, Zarate, and Harada at 118lbs??

Prime Zarate would be interesting. Good to see whether without a headclashthat Carlos could've punched his way back into the fight they actually had. I'll give Fenech the benefit of the doubt and say his chin holds up; he'd outpunch the often methodical Zarate to a close decision.

Harada would be very exciting, but Fenech was bigger and stronger. Fenech decision.

Jofre might well have the right blend to put it all together but I could see Fenech outworking him. At 118 he was a tidy operator who was hard to hit himself.

All depends how Fenech is at the weight I imagine, he didn't stick around below 126 for too long.

@Irene you don't think the Jeff of Nelson I would cause Super feather Floyd some real problems? 'Cause I do.

Sooo..from the looks of it, you pretty much think Fenech is the top h2h guy at 118lbs? Interesting, not sure if i would agree, but i do respect your opinion...Fenech really was a nightmare to deal with...How do you see a match up between him and Ruben Olivares going?

Olivares might well bang him out. But unlike. He was hurtable at the weight, but like Fenech he had his off nights.

I'll take Olivares, just. If Fenech can back him up and stunt his punching range then Ruben can box as well. It'd be a violent fight either way.

But yeah, weight issues aside I'd be happy picking Fenech as the best H2H bantamweight.
