So Jofre and Olivares were unbeatable at bantamweight? Fenech doesn't make my top 10 there; those two are my no.1 and no.2. But stylistically Fenech brings heaps to the table. He could pull off something similar to Harada against Jofre, and Olivares, a beast no doubt and multi-faceted, was given bog trouble by fighters great (Chucho and Herrera) and not so great (Hafey) and was known to not be all that dedicated to training. What fights of Fenech's do you think showed that Jofre and Olivares match up well with him? I never said he'd beat Mayweather either. A Herculean effort aside, Fenech had seen better days at 130, but there's no doubt he'd give Floyd all kinds of problems.
If Fenech was a natural 130 pounder I'd take him over Mayweather there. It would be like facing the best of Castillo and Hatton combined.
What of Fenech's H2H qualities at 118 S_S? Too tight at the weight to expect consistency out of him in say, the mid 60s? Impossible for anyone, even Jofre to remain without a loss there, but who have the best chance stylistically at beating Fenech? Shingaki wasn't all that, but Fenech's defence and offence were both brilliantly compact in their first fight, his right hand a Duran-level of accurate.
He's a formidable force just on strength and workrate alone, even if he was a little raw at 118. I'm not sure any puncher south of featherweight takes him out, so I'd give him a decent shot against the Zarates, Jofres, Olivares and Gomezes of the bantam world. I probably wouldn't pick him to beat Jofre or Gomez, but I might favour him over the other two. I think I'd choose him over the cream of the bantam stylists like Rose, Lora. A fight with Harada would be a great, great fight, perhaps with Harada shading it.
I see those two coming together more often than not; Fenech was tidier and stronger, Harada quicker. Both had very accurate right hands. Could go either way, and both could get on their toes and be less gung-ho if they felt they needed to. Would be incredible to watch, I agree.
Fenech was one hell of a fighter during his prime run. He'd give anyone a major headache. Those types of fighters tend to lose it quickly, and he did as well.
Henceforth every time someone is outclassed we will say he was Jofred! As in 'Chavez really Jofred Rosario didn't he?'
Touche. But Park was outclassing guys for like 5 fights Lopez for 50. Maybe we can compromise. To Mayweather someone?
Are there any books or Auto/biographys on Jeff Fenech? A good old fashioned Aussie nutcase!:good I bet his life would make an entertaining read. I'd love to have known what him and mike Tyson used to talk about together :yep Oh well..the great amuzah Nelson gave him one hell of a beating
Well, as Harada Jofred Kingpetch and beat Jofre as well id be happy to take Masahiko'd Now, as Katsuo Tokashiki played Harada in a film of his life and was on the wrong end of a Masahiko-ing against Chang, ad also because it sounds cool, I'm willing to settle with Tokashiki'd.
