And when I say 'clean up' I mean make championships meaningful again, bring boxing to mainstream attention, and simply give the sport of boxing some identity. Personally, if money was not an issue, this would be my step by step plan... 1. I would create my own boxing organisation called the UBF (Unified Boxing Federation), similar to WWE and UFC, but for the sport of boxing. 2. Next, I would use my money to negotiate deals to buy out the four major boxing organisations (IBF, WBA, WBC & WBO) along with any minor organisations, gaining the rights to their belts and their fighters. 3. I would then go about negotiating contracts with the top 10 contenders in every weight class, releasing any fighters who are not in those rankings. 4. I would get a deal with the two major US boxing networks (HBO & Showtime) to broadcast my fights. 5. I would make the IBF, WBA, WBC & WBO championship belt defunct and bring out a new range of UBF championship belts which the eventual champions of every weight class will hold. 6. Over a 5 year plan, I would go about unifying all four titles in every weight class by having the champions fight one another, so that at the end there would be one undisputed champion in every weight class. 7. I would then revert to a standard formular of broadcasting, airing shows on HBO and Showtime alternating every fortnight, with major 'draws' (i.e. mayweather, pacquiao etc) being aired on PPV maybe every other month. 8. The formular of my shows would generally feature 2 championship fights, 2 number 1 contender fights (between the 2nd & 3rd ranked fighters), and 4+ lower ranking fights, allowing fighters lower down the rankings to work their way up. 9. My shows would feature mixed weight classes per show, and I would work with the fighters involved in order to decide how we want to promote the fight (i.e. use Golden Boy etc). What do you think? I know it would cost an insane amount of money, and negotiating contracts with TV networks, organisations, fighters, promoters, officials, and venues would be tricky, but that is my theoretical plan to 'clean up' the sport of boxing.
Just like this. One world championship fight, every winter. Rest of the year would be tournaments. Winter/Spring = National Tournaments to produce National Champions Summer = Regional Tournaments = National Champions fighting for a Regional Title Fall = Intercontinental Tournament = Regional Champs fighting for the single Intercontinental Title End of Year = World Championship = Reigning World Champ fights the Intercon Champion for the world title.
Interesting wishlist. I'd just like to see judges scores displayed after each round. Then everyone including the fighters can know if the fix is in early ...
10: Purchase HBO. 11: Purchase Showtime 12: Buy out GBP, Bob Arum, etc. Without these 3 things, you'd control nothing, and nothing would change.
eliminate all these stupid weightclasses. boxing has wayyyyyyy to many weightclasses. all the fighters would have to fight under one organization. open many many boxing gyms around the world, because if kids arent boxing then there is no future. boxers would not be able to pick and choose who they fight. but lets face it guys, i am a big fan of both mma and boxing, but the truth of the matter is dana white and the ufc have an excellent business model and boxing needs to follow it.
1. Buy all four major sanctioning bodies and make all weight classes at least a ten pound leap from one another. 2. Request and campaign for an international boxing commission to be set up which takes over governance of all boxing, amateur and professional with a view to stamping out any rival sanctioning bodies that might appear. 3. Work with the existing promotional agencies to clean up the way fights are done.
Sadly, The chances of my ever becoming a billionaire are actually BETTER than the chances of anyone ever actually cleaning up the sport of boxing.
I thought I'd point out that in my scenario all fights would be 60/40 for the winner. 70/30 if won by stoppage. A portion of all fight purses would go to Fighters Retirement Fund, helping aging and crippled fighters. Also, with all fights being setup based on tournament wins, it puts promoters and contract disputes out of business.
-High profile megafights on ESPN and basically no more PPVs -One belt per weight class. -Retirement Fund for fighters.
Would be amazing. One brand . Like the UFC . No more paper champs and ducking people. And have the same handfull of judges all the time. I would buy my own channel and show the fights on there. Also badass action movies. Classic boxing and fight of the year fights . Classic upsets. History of the sport etc.. Also having your own boxing. Channel you could do bio's on all yhe fighters etc. And for a champ to stay on top he would be fighting # 1 contenders and would be a worthly champ
Hire some mafia and whoop all these corrupt officials referees judges promoters and sanctioning bodies. And Floyd too. Just break his hands so he can't fight no more. Boxing don't need him.
