It's hard to comprehend the amount of YouTube boxing channels that have popped up. Every time I have a look in, there's another familiar face from a press conference being interviewed by a complete newcomer. Today I see one from a new channel with 300 views interviewing Mikaela Mayer, another one with 500 cornering Joe McNally. Another that has 900 videos on YouTube, some with double-digit view counts. Where do they all come from? How do they make any money? Are they just self-funded hobbies? It kind of feels like the explosion in barber shops round our way - loads of staff and fancy fittings but nobody in them half the time. Assume they're washing money. In boxing it wouldn't be a surprise either. Have to take your hat off to the participants for giving them so much time.
I wouldn't mind them but they seem to circulate between Sam Jones, Spencer Fearon and Sunny Edwards! Interview some decent people and the views will come
My youtube feed is saturated and I'm definitely doing a cull soon ... The old favourites will be first to go
It's a very crowded market and I hard one to enter and succeed in, I'd say. The top dogs get the views.
the amount of airtime Jones gets is one of life's biggest mysteries. It's the same issue that I have with podcasts being that there is no quality control there so anyone with a camera and laptop can set a channel up regardless of they're actually any good at what they do.
Spencer Fearon thinks hes the spokesperson for every notable black fighter in the country. Absolute clown
Chris Andre boxing is a really good channel for analysis. I still watch Hatman returns although he gets criticism for being an AJ nuthugger, he is still a decent analyst most of the time. Porky's corner is good depending on the guest. Then there are the usual ones for the h2h's, press conferences and interviews depending on what fighters / fights you are interested in.
Yes, there are long-term channels that don't depend on soundbites and presumably aren't chasing to return some investor money. Lots of respect for those. I just wish YouTube would put them on my timeline more often
