You've Morphed Into Hennessy For A Day... Choose Murray's Next Fight

If I were Fat Mick I'd probably go for Murray versus George St. Pierre and stage the fight in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

 

Im trying to think what Mick would do himself. He'd probably get land Murray another defence of his Europeon title against a Russian with 12 losses in Mallorca.

 

Juan Diaz, that would show us what level Murray is on and how good he is.

Daiz is around world class.

I'd get a fighter who'd been at world level and come up a bit short, or somebody who might be on the way out of the game. Just off the top of my head, David Diaz or Escobedo perhaps, might come up with better ones when I look at the rankings later but you know what I mean.

The jump to world level is a precarious one, and a fight against a fighter with world level experience would be a good gauge and might teach him what he needs to know, but without the risk. If he had been more impressive at the current level I could understand going straight for a world champ, but he hasn't been.

 

I think this is a great time to be fighting Soto. Its a 50-50 fight for me. And there's a date open for the fight in December

 

I'm not sure Murray has been terribly managed. He has a style that means he needs a decent camp and a cool off period so he can't be kept very busy i.e. out 5 times in a year, he has a style that won't last forever, he is 30-0 but very untested at world level.

So in short he isn't ready for World Class because he hasn't really faced any prime top (top 30) opponents in his career yet he is 30-0 and if he doesn't step up soon he might well get to that level when he begins to slow down which for a pressure fighter is a disaster. I wouldn't go for Ortiz because that would be a disaster and he can't afford to get a beat down because that would ruin his aspirations of getting to world class. I would go for Gavin Rees it's a natural fight to make and you can't say it would lack significance.

 

Murray obviously has a problem with movers.

This issue needs to be addressed before moving up a level IMO. I'd get him a fairly low key 10 rounds with Willie Limond or someone of that level who is capable of good lateral movement.

The reason it would be low key is because there is a chance Murray could look bad and show a lot of weaknesses. But I'd have a long training camp for him on purely focussing on movers.

If he was good against Limond he is ready to move up, if he struggles I would get him a defence again on sky vs a brawler to look good, then do another low key 10 rounds, until he is ready to move up in level.

 

Dont see why Juan Diaz is seen as a measuring stick, Diaz would still eat him alive IMO

 

Kevin Mitchell would be on the menu. If Murray wins, DeMarco would be next.
