Yuki Beppu vs. Ryota Yada, 12 rounds @ welterweight

 

This is for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific welterweight title.

Round 1

Yada banged across the brow with a right hand and in trouble already! Beppu sends 1-2 after 1-2 sailing into Yada's face, backing him across the ring. Yada is staying composed, guard up, jabbing steadily in reply. A few right hands by Yada, timed with Beppu's 1-2s so they nick him below the underarm. HUGE counter right by Yada, spinning Beppu around! Jabs and hooks by Beppu circling to his left. Yada surges with a right, mostly blocked. Beppu jabs into the gloves of Yada, cautious ever since that big right he ate. Beppu darts in with a couple of body shots, blocks a Yada jab, and lands his own while strafing left.

Round 2

Beppu is showing the jab, but not snapping it out, instead dashing to his left and whipping a hook at the head of Yada. Beppu again starting out the aggressor, lathering up a foamy spray of punches and backing Yada into the ropes, his own momentum causing him to collapse atop Yada, both of them held up by the bottom rope. Line drive left jab hard into the cheekbone of Yada followed by a hard shovel right plugged into the belly as Beppu keeps driving his way inside. Yada is loading up on rights on the body as Beppu dances outside, nudging Yada with a left jab and then cracking down on his forehead with a right cross. Yada rocked by a left hook, stumbling into the ropes! Beppu jumps in but is held & smothered while chopping down at Yada, who goes down, ruled a slip/push. They keep wrestling and the ref is getting annoyed. Beppu now slipped/pushed down himself. They swap hooks and Yada goes down for real. 20 seconds left on the clock as he gets up. Another wild exchange! Beppu going for the finish, but Yada executes a flawless MMA-style double leg takedown, preserving himself! Ref somehow DGAF!

Round 3

Beppu is flying in wit.h big axing rights and sweeping left hooks, still gunning for the KO. Yada falls against the ropes and then slices his way free with his own heavy downward right, backing up Beppu and buying himself a little room. Beppu keeps jabbing into the face of Yada in multiples, standing directly in front of him but cheating his body 60 degrees clockwise so that he's a skinnier target for Yada's counters. They watch each other warily at mid-range, both feeling out with jabs, and Beppu, characteristically, is first to start hurling the right hand. Yada lowers his arms to Beppu's waist and pushes him away. Left hook from Beppu. Yada backed into the ropes with jabs, clocked atop the head with a right, dives and grabs Beppu around the waist.

Round 4

Beppu lands a heavy right on the body and left hook up top sequenced together while cruising in from outside. Yada keeps patiently standing pat, measuring with the jab, picking his spots with the 1-2, and finally rocks Beppu with it. Yada now slashing down with the right, missing. Beppu lands three hard jabs on the mouth, all making Yada blink. Beppu gets confident, steps in, takes a BIG RIGHT HAND and goes down. Yada moves in as the crowd begins to scream. Beppu now on his bike, using the four corner defense, pecking out at Yada with bunches of jabs. Yada is rocked by a right hand rushing in. Beppu still moving backward. Yada hyperextends a right and catches Beppu, rocking him again. Beppu carrying his arms low while circling but lifting them when Yada punches, mostly blocking his rights at least partially now. Beppu starts to nearly outbox Yada down the stretch with his movement and jab.

Round 5

Beppu lands a hard left uppercut on the body. Yada looks tired for a spell, just following, lobbing up half-hearted body shots off the hip, and clinching. Beppu circles left, taking turns throwing with one hand at a time, either hooking off the jab or throwing straight rights followed by windmilling ones. Yada keeps pressuring, punching once for every ten by Beppu, but when he does launch the right hand it claps against the side of Beppu's head and rocks him. Yada pounces on Beppu and clouts him with an equilibrium shot on the temple, hard right, Beppu almost looked out on his feet and slouched over, but Yada ruined his own momentum by draping over him in a clinch, probably giving Beppu some critical recovery time. ANOTHER big plunging right hurts Beppu similarly, but the bell soon rings to save him.

Round 6

Beppu is landing rights on the head and body shots while circling outside. Yada carries his fists by his pecs, turned outward like a cat, and fishes with his own long body shots. Beppu is waiting like a jack-in-the-box, countering with two-pieces when Yada reaches in on him. Beppu scoring on the body from outside and circling perhaps over-confidently with his arms down. Yep. BIG right hand by Yada rocks him badly again, with another putting him down. Under a minute on the clock. Beppu shells up and plays it safe for about thirty seconds, before his gladiatorial instincts kick in and he starts uppercutting on the inside with Yada. Bad idea. Big uppercut from Yada devastates Beppu, dropping him again. Saved by the bell - ALMOST! Third knockdown scored by Yada, but the ref doesn't apply the count (may have not seen it, already turning his back to walk to a neutral corner as the bell rang).

Round 7

Beppu is now putting together anti-aircraft uppercuts from practically down by his ankles, with big left hooks that see his fist collect postage stamps from the continental mainland before wending around to kiss Yada's cheek. Yada is pawing a jab, and Beppu firing power shots past it, when Beppu inexplicably goes down. I just rewound it a couple of times and - yeah. No punch landed by Yada. Beppu reaches in with a right hand, blocked on Yada's left arm, which then sort of grazes the neck of Beppu lightly, and he just voluntarily goes to a knee, clutching his side, despite not having been caught with any body shot. Ref gives a count, but - that was very weird. Anyway. They're both tired, both punching sloppily. Neither really getting hit.

Round 8

Beppu is circling left and floating the jab, otherwise carrying his left fist low, but keeping the right high under his chin to intercept punches. Yada is plodding after him like a Terminator, his own arms low, shaking a wavy jab at him while applying his awkward pressure. Beppu zaps him with a check left hook and then straightens his neck with a couple of stiff jabs. Beppu now in control, avoiding the rights of Yada while taming him with jabs.

Round 9

Beppu is hooking Yada in the face and then leaning outside with quick reflexes before Yada can land anything in return. Beppu scoring and getting out. Yada keeps walking into him and is caught in a headlock. The ref pulls Yada over to ringside for the physician to check a cut. He's cleared. Time in. Beppu steps in jabbing with Yada, eating one himself, but then hooking Yada thrice in the head while circumventing him. Rights & lefts in combination now from Beppu at mid-range, still not holding up a guard or moving his head. Beppu dominating in terms of connects but his situation is fraught as long as Yada has bad intentions with that right hand and Beppu stubbornly remains within range of it without any defensive precautions. Aaaaaaand, just as I type that, he goes down again. Short looping right by Yada, switching up the angle, catching Beppu unawares.

Round 10

Beppu is shuffling to his left and jabbing Yada in the face. Yada cuts off the ring with long spidery diagonal steps, using his height advantage and staying in front of Beppu wherever he roams. BIG CHOPPING RIGHT HAND by Beppu, causing Yada to nearly face-plant. Yada keeps following and getting poked with counters. Ref has the physician look at Yada once more. He shines a pen-light in his eyes. Cleared once more. Time in. Beppu is tripling up on hooks on the face now. Wow, just had a clear look at Yada's grill and yeah, all swollen up nasty. Doctor would be well within his rights to stop it on facial damage, tbh. They flurry together and Yada tackles Beppu onto the canvas. Lazy jab by Yada, countered by one, two, three flush left hooks by Beppu. Yada starts doing the gas station wavy man dance, and the ref comes in.
