It makes Mosley look even better. A version of Mosley far removed from his prime gave Cotto a damn tough fight, and if that version of Mosley could do that then it signifies to me that this welterweight division - whilst is deep - isn't as strong in terms of it's best fighters as we thought it was.
Aside from Cotto, Floyd and Shane, the division is nothing special. The deepness comes from those 3 fighters alone. Remove even one of them and several divisions are as good or stronger, it's not the 'golden era' like some think it is.
OK, so fighter A beats fighter B in an upset, making fighter C look good but fighter D even better because A got crushed by C but D fought a close competitive fight with him, right? I'm sorry, but i really don't think it works like that. Kind of reminds me of when Mayorga won the WW title and became known as "the man who beat the man who beat the man who beat the man". Whatever.
I think a prime Mosley beats anybody in the WW division, so it isn't like that. It's not a styles thing.
Well, you probably have a point about the depth of the division, but hell, the fights are fun and competitive and pretty high-class IMO. So what does it really matter?
I guess it doesn't - I just don't want to hear people saying that Quintana winning propells Cotto into one of the best fighters of all time, and silliness like that.
Well you've got my vote on that one, Cotto is a hell of fighter, one of the best in the world p4p, but he has a lot of work to do before he's "great", and Quintana being a little better than ppl thought he was certainly doesn't get him there!:good
