You get wildly varying opinions on both of these fighters, from "near great" to "Who?". They actually debuted on the same night and both had some very impressive amateur credentials... But what's your opinion on both of them, recollections, anything and everything. My defining memory of Nazarov is him nearly killing Gamache years before Gatti did it with the help of a 20 plus pound weight advantage.
Yuri is probably my favorite Flyweight of all time. Excellent technician, just as good as someone like Lopez IMO. Great footwork, balance, punch picking, accuracy, economy in his attack, patience, poise, etc. Just a very calm and collected fighter in the ring under pretty much every situation. Resume and length of reign is probably a bit lacking for too high a placing among the Flyweight list, but at his best he was up there with any of them IMO.
Was it Nazarov that retired because of eye problems? I find it strange that they both had nearly the exact same careers length wise, 7 and 8 years I believe. Why did Yuri quit the game?
Hand problems and general physical decline. I love Arbachakov, though one thing about him some might hold against is that almost every single one of his defences that went the distance was close...most with no more than three points in it.I tend to think he fought with a "do just enough" mentality at times that could be dangerous against better fighters. I think he may have deserved to lose the Raul Juarez fight actually, but Juares did turn his back and refuse to continue if i remember correctly after a legit bodyshot and should imo have been stopped for it.
