What do you guys this of his prospects in the future? I see a very talented young fighter. Likes to fight flat-footed, but has excellent reflexes, excellent handspeed, and is a very accurate puncher. We'll have to wait until he faces someone with a pulse first, but I think the future is bright for him, very bright. [yt]JtS6F-aT5lY[/yt]
I see him as a future P4P #1. That's not hyperbole. I think he'll get there. He ain't there yet, but he'll adjust. He has all the physical tools and technical capabilities, just needs to be a little bit less cocky and a little more focussed when in with the bangers.
True, he just needs to get in there with someone to test him. It will all come with age and experience.
Damn right he's a future superstar. Here's an official thread made by me a few days ago.:thumbsup http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43635 All of his fights available on the net are in the topic.
He'd alleviate a lot of my worries if in one of his next fights he consistently keeps his right hand at his chin. He looks to be the kind of fighter that can get away with a low left, and he might get some benefit from it in the way of angles (although with his offensive capabilities, I wouldn't bother) but there's no reason not to keep his right hand up.
He CAN make it very far. We will have to wait and see what happens. In the ams he would box nicely on the outside if necessary. And so far he was the one pressuring.. wonder how he'll do if HE gets pressured in the pro's as he seems to think he blows everybody away. So far he is getting a bit used to fighting guys way lower then is own level. Not a good tactic by his management imo.
Well what do you expect from a fighter a few months after his pro debut and after just a few fights? His competition is INCREDIBLY HIGH for that part of his career. Prospects usually fight the Joel Mayos after 2+ years for an intercontinental/NAB* title. Mayo was Gamboa's 3rd foe. 'Beginners' rarely fight strong chinned big punchers like Paniagua, it's easier and safer to bring lighter punchers. Paniagua was Gamboa's 5th, former world title challenger Kebede his 6th, highly ranked, big puncher, supposed-to-be tough De Jesus his 7th. He was picked to put on some serious pressure on Yuriorkis but failed (his biggest achievement was a fake knockdown). You know there aren't much levels in competition between De Jesus and a world champ. Maybe a veteran former great like Freddie Norwood. The fight was actually made then Freddie pulled out... Well, it's something that YOU have to get used to as Gamboa will always fight guys lower than his own level. :thumbsup
He's been around for a while now, most people know of him, I'll say the same thing now I said months ago, he's a future P4P champ.
How old is he? Love the handspeed and skills. Not quite sure about the way he leaves his chin exposed, though -- he can most likely get away with it most of the time due to his reflexes, but when he starts getting in the ring with elite people it could screw him over.
I don't think he'll be a star. A top, top class fighter, yes, but not a star. He isn't marketable enough to be a draw, like Leonard, Tyson, DLH etc.. It's hard to say if he will be P4P #1. Someone better may be around then, he could get KOed and develope a glass jaw, not have enough stamina and so on. Right now though he is showig a hell of a lot of potential.
