The man that convincingly beat Jon Thaxton, Steve Murray, Steve Conway ad Bobby Vanzie. Is making a long-awaited comeback to the ring. He isn't too old to make some noise, at 31 if he steps it up he could surprise a few people. He's in against Jeremy Bryan - http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=430476&cat=boxer Someone he'll outpoint easily, perhaps if he can get back on these shores he can be a future opponent for Ricky Burns. I liked his style, solid boxing, good counter puncher, good defence. A bit of more entertaining version of Andrei Kotelnik. Thoughts?
I'm sure he had serious problems with a shoulder injury that kept bothering him, maybe with the time out the shoulder has healed well enough to continue his career.
never thought we'd see Yuri in the ring again, damn shame I think he's wasted a lot of time and maybe too little too late
Very classy fighter, a little one paced at times, but great to watch. Will be interesting to see what he has got left.
saw him twice against earl and thaxton and thought he would defo challenge for a world title then just seem to disappear
Its a shame he had those problems when he went to America (Visa I think caused the issue). He looked quality beating thaxton always wondered why he didn't come back and build for a title shot in Europe. Most of this placed had him nailed on to pick a title up after the Thaxton fight.
Remember being really impressed with how he took care of Thaxton, who was on a very good run of wins at the time.
Yep, think one of his (numerous) cancelled fight before his disappearance from the scene was a vacant IBF Lightweight title shot vs Fernando Angulo. In the end neither man got a shot, but Romanov would of done a job on Angulo imo. Hopefully he'll show us he has something left tonight. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he started slow, he had a decent layoff before he fought Earl and it took him quite a few rounds to shade the rust. I personally thought he still did enough to edge that one in what was a very good fight. A perfect example of a non title fight that deserved (and got) the 12 round billing.
This. must have had some personal problems. looked a impressive fighter. heres hoping for a rocky story!
Lost on points according to this: http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/01/05/3168532_p2/hairon-socarras-knocks-out-josh.html
:-( Like BigEars said, he had an IBF shot lined up after the Thaxton fight. IIRC he couldn't get a visa at the time to fight in the States. Real waste of a talent and career. After the Thaxton fight he was ready to move on to world level.
