But, before the head clash, Yuri seemed better...The head but seemed to effect Roman more, but Yuri was winning better prior to it...I thought
That was one boring ass fight, but the kid has skills no doubt. Ill give him a decent shot against Phillips and Alcine.
Well done Yuri, i like his pure boxer style, looks like he will get a word title shot next, hope he is up to it.
I still can't believe Foreman was only a 2:1 favorite. Roman was a step down from Yuri's two last opponents.
I've seen him fight once or twice and he's been extremely boring both times. He may win a title but he doesn't seem destined to be a fan favorite- thats for sure.
Yuri can beat Verno if he stays completely disciplined, but it's a tough fight for him. Verno was doing a respectable job making contact wth Cory even before Spinks decided to stop moving, so I'm pretty sure he can tag the Fightin' Rabbi. Depending on how they do in the remainder of the year, Powell - Foreman is a pretty decent all-NYC showdown.
Last time I watch Yuri, I call him Yuri Boreman. Today is the confirmation ... He's really BOREMAN!!!
While I didnt see tonights fight? That's my impression of Foreman as well. It's a travesty to call him a Champion by beating Phillips. :-( :-( :-(
I don't know, too call him a tactician is giving him too much credit. He has a run and pop style. On top of that he is awkward as well. He has almost zero pop on his punchs because he won't sit on them. You can call that masterful boxing, and at times it sort of was, but that was pure running in circles pot shotting the whole time. Boring as hell.
Don't get fooled two much by an easy win over a guy with one decent win over a shot fighter on his resume. He barely got by Andrey Tsurkan, a volume puncher with no pop, and Anthony Thompson. Roman is very slow and just doesn't have the offensive capacity to bother Foreman. Foreman will be in trouble once he faces someone who's better at his own game than he is (i.e. Cory Spinks, Dzinziruk) or someone who can pressure and crack (i.e. Forrest, Mayorga, Julio). He might even have trouble with someone who can fight taller than he does, though I'm not sure who that is at the moment. One way or the other, he'll have trouble getting a big shot other than going through mandatories. He has a Jewish following in New York, but with his style (alternating between boxer/runner and puncher/hugger, depending on the opponent), I can't see him getting much of a national following. BTW, the thing about trying not to knock out guys because of Rabbinical law is the most bunk thing I've ever heard. He doesn't have good KO power, simple as that. If he was that concerned about not hurting people, he would quit boxing. Sounds like his promoters making up a reason for why he doesn't knock guys out.
I don't think he's championship material either. He was damn fortunate to eek out a split decision against Thompson. And he was bloodied and looked beat up after that fight.
