Yuriorkis Gamboa is not your typical over hyped fighter.

Gamboa is definitely something special, and I will be very surprised if he doesn't atleast become a titlist some day. I don't get why people rag on this guy so much.. he's obviously tremendously skilled, anyone with two eyes should be able to see that. He wins spectacularly, and almost all his fights are entertaining. He's fought 15 times in three years, and most of his opponents are the type of guys that other " hot prospects " won't even step up to until their 20th fight or so.. alot of times even longer.

Gamboa is something extremely rare in this sport today.. he and his team are willingly aiming high.. can't really say the same for someone like Chavez Jr or Valero. To think the guy's only been pro for three years and he's already pretty close to contender status.

.. keep in mind even Mike Tyson looked unextraordinary against James Tillis.

He has the intangibles to compete at a top level. As for his chin it's definitely workable.. I don't understand why knockdowns automatically mean your chin is weak.

John will be a very difficult fight. Styles make fights and John has the wrong style for Gamboa. John is no Rojas.

Good post man. Love him or hate him, but no way you can criticise his very strong opposition in just 15 fights. And as he aims for the WBA belt, held by World FW Champion and borderline P4P-er Chris John, we can safely say he's aiming for the highest price possible.

    What a fighter!

some people just hate based on fear...and Gamboa has that effect in scaring people inside and outside the ring.

Its not really the knockdowns that are the problem, its really the way that he reacts to shots that gets him labeled as WEAK when it comes to chin.

This kid Gamboa is on a track to being on the wrong side of a knock out of the year type fight. He doesnt respect the guys that he fights, he forgets his defence thoughout fights, and his chin isnt that strong to start with.

Bad Knockout loses in his future...

He reacts by getting back up and blitzing his opponent, from what I've seen. He probably will lose in the future.. whether it be by KO or UD, but either way he deserves more respect than what he's gotten so far.

You listen to people enough and you'd think he reacts like Khan.

Yuri's chin is no worse than Cotto's used to be.

    My thoughts exactly.

Unless this guy has some rotten luck in him somewhere, it's damn near inevitable that he grabs a title.

horrible post, Cotto's been put on the canvas once in his career and that wasn't even from a punch....Gamboa's dropped against bums, he clearly has a suspect chin, though that doesn't take away from his speed and power
