Broner isn't very good. Gamboa crushes him.

I may get flamed for this but I was not that impressed. I AM a Gamboa fan. However, it really seems like he doesn't have a set style. He drops his hands like Martinez and RJJ (back in the day) but ONLY when retreating. He doesn't use a low hands style to be a reflex based fighter so I see no point in Gamboa doing that. Secondly, he tries to use the shoulder roll and does so "OK." He is not Toney or Mayweather and it only serves to get that straight right or uppercut in on occasion. Finally, his rallies tonight were not very impressive. A lot of the crowd cheering influenced judges no doubt. On replay's Leon ducked a alot of them and really didn't take much damage.

As a side note, I was not impressed with the late punch off the break as that was VERY intended and not reactionary.

Again, he is a good fighter. However, he is nowhere near a superfight; especially after tonight in my opinion. While many many disagree, that is what is great about opinions; everyone is entitled to them. I had Gamboa winning almost every round; however I had some that were pretty close. I think they would have gotten closer if the butt didn't happen and the fight went deeper. Oh well. So-So scrap.

I didn't really notice anyone having it any closer than that, but wasn't really paying much attention to other people's posts while watching.

    ...I'm also not Mexican.

At the best PDL got a draw against Broner. I scored a 2 round margin in Broner's favor.

Exactly. :good He did much worse against this same version of Ponce De Leon. He is not a G, and is not Gamboa's class.

Man I been really liked Ortiz every since I watched him stay cool and weave from a Mike Arnoutis jab, then pounce his ass in the corner. Then it did suck when he gave that post fight interview from Maidana, but he's come back a long ways from there.

Floyd is the man, but this will be the most live and energetic dude he been in with in a LONG time.

    No flame, good post. :good

The thing is...while all your criticisms are spot on, who would you say he isn't ready for in a superfight?

I've always thought Gamboa would beat Lopez since both hit the scene and nothing to date has changed that.

Other than that, what big event is there to even be made at the weight? :huh

    That could be VERY sweet.

Garcia will probably be ready, it's just a question of whether he can picks up the right wins to increase his visibility.

People keep judging an outcome of Gamboa vs Lopez based on their performances against common opponents. It doesn't work that way.

I saw Gamboa play a perfect strategy. He knew when to pounce on PDL, and he wasted nothing in there. Just standing in there, countering him with that sweet counter hook, which he might have gotten a little too comfortable with.
When the camera zoomed in on DeLeon in the corner, he was breathing out of the mouth and looking for a way out. Gamboa would have KO'd DeLeon without a doubt purely based on the difference in physical conditioning. PDL would have been a punching bag by the tenth.

Exactly. I hate that people dismiss fights like that nowadays. "Oh he lost to that guy? Well I have no interest in a fight that I used to think was a good style fight now. He lost to a guy not even similar. Move along."

I think it's pretty clear by now that common opposition has nothing to do with how Gamboa-Lopez would play out.

Gamboa outclasses Salido, who breaks down Lopez.

Lopez blows out Ponce De Leon, who is surprisingly competitive with Gamboa.

Lopez gets a GIFT against Mtagwa, and Gamboa destroys him.

Forget h2h performance against common opposition.

Gamboa's just better, and would have won had they met at any point.

Gift ? Lopez dominated the first 10 rounds of that fight.
