You do have to admire Angel's toughness.

I don't want to say he didn't earn a paycheck tonight, but IMO he deserves sparring partner money for what he brought to the ring - not an 8-round fighter's purse.

Round 1

Cartagena is throwing reckless right hand leads and got countered hard by a left hook stuffed into his cheek by Cruz. Cartagena keeps coming forward, sticking his lead leg out ahead of him and trying to set up a flurry. Long slapping combo by Cartagena, all over the place as he drives Cruz back to the ropes and winds up hung up on top of him. Cruz backs up and pumps a left jab repeatedly in place, more as an obstacle to Cartagena than anything meant to score. Cartagena flashes a quick double jab and gets parried, landing on the knuckle pads of Cruz. Cartagena ducks diagonally out of the way of a jab and comes in low with a right hand, only to get counter hooked again. Long jab to the body by Cruz. They flap in with high punches and collide into a clinch. Cruz throws a 1-2 into the guard.
