I like this fight. very interested to see what el ciclon will do with the african guy, especially after he almost drowned juanma in deep waters.

 

We'll definitely get to see how they perform against the same opponent. This is what Pac and Floyd have been doing for a couple of years now!! Fighting each other's left overs just to compare even if it's totally illogical.

 

its different because floyd forced jmm to fight at a silly weight. jmm would have fought him at 175 for the paycheck.

 

Even though, yes, I'm interested to see how Gamboa deals compared to Lopez, I think champions fighting champions is where it's at. Lopez should've been in against Caballero, not Mtagwa. Gamboa...well, nothing against him but I don't see him as a champion yet, really. I mean, John is the WBA champion. Bugger the regular champion/super champion crap. Gamboa is special but he is not the WBA champion. God, the WBA drives me nuts. Anyway, Gamboa should be gunning for a champion in his weight class.

 

this is bull****. how in the hell does mtagwa a journeyman at best. lose an undeserved title shot at 122, then turn around and get another undeserved title shot at 126.

this is the thing that is wrong with boxing. the fabrication of personalities, not true champions

It's a superb fight and the best one to set up Gamboa-Lopez, IF Yuri can get past Rogers. The biggest fear in this fight is going to the cards early due to an accidental headbutt, but other than that, it's all action and heart.

Lopez barely, I mean BARELY survived Mtagwa who was called a bum and no-hoper before, yet he won on more than a few fans scorecard and almost got the TKO.

Gamboa needs a proper test, someone who can't be blown away, who lasts 12 rounds (something Yuri never did), who hits back hard, and against you have to box smart. Gamboa needs to settle down, use Tysonesque footwork and movement rather than jumping in, place his shots better, take his time, use the jab, keep proper distance, and Mtagwa won't be a problem. Rushing in could be disastrous or lead to another knockdown, which is far better at this stage than vs. Lopez, who finishes you off. There's still work to do with Gamboa's game.

This fight is more than just a test. Mtagwa is coming to win bigtime, and anything less than another war would be disappointing. It's gonna be great.

 

Damn it, now you're selling me on this more than I thought I'd be. And you're right about Gamboa needing a test like this, I admit.
