This would have been a great battle to see!

Sanchez was a tremendous fighter and an all time great that could have possibly been the best Mexican fighter ever if he hadn't die so young. :-(

Gamboa is just starting his career and is an spectacular fighter as fast as they come, with wicked power in both hands and with an amateur pedigree like no other.

Who wins this terrific past vs present match and how?

    Please vote !!! :good

The present version of Gamboa is just too easy to hit and can be hurt.Granite chinned and technically superior Sanchez by mid round ko.Maybe if Yuriorkis improves as he gets even more experience, the later version gets stopped by Chava around round nine or ten.

The thread is asking about the great Salvador Sanchez, not his nephew. But of course, chances are you were still in your daddy's nutsack during the time of Chava's reign.

Anyway, Sal takes takes this by a late round TKO around the 10th IMO.

Sal's technique, counterpunching, timing, accuracy plus his granite chin and freakish stamina would be too much for Gamboa.

Too inexperienced at that level. Let him have ten more fights and I'll give an assessment. Gamboa hasn't reached his full potential.

Why even bother having these fantasy matchups that involve old school fighters? You're not going to hear what you want to hear.

Good post and I also believe that Gamboa hasn't reach his full potential yet but I think he takes Sanchez as of now in a very tough war. ;)

Sanchez at 23 years had beaten some of the best fighters to date. Sanchez had great skill and power. Gamboa an exiting fighter to watch has power and is wild. He's been droped by regular fighters. Sanchez kos him without much trouble.

Completely disagree. If Gamboa would had defected at 20 years old he too would have been great at age 23 so it's not fair to compare them in that area. Gamboa has never been hurt and two of those flash knockdowns were not legit. No one ko's Gamboa " without much trouble ". Sanchez was very good but Gamboa is better and faster than anything he faced in his entire life. ;)
