Just watched the replay on Eurosport of Gamboa-De Jesus. First time I saw this guy, and I'm already a fan! What I saw was ****ing great! He seems to me like a lighter version of RJJ, fantastic reflexes, unbelievable speed, great offense, and defensive skills too! He has only 7 pro fights, fights out of Germany and already fights solid opposition in the U.S., not only bums. He needs to stay more focused in the ring and not play around, but I think he can go a looooong way! A star is born!

    What are your thoughts?

Everybody in this Forum thinks the same, as soon as they see him fight... they become fans.

I find it amazing that he wasn't even the most heralded prospect from Cuba.

That's truly incredible. It's also sad at the same time as we will never be able to see these other great talents. Had they been allowed to leave Cuba and make a professional career for themselves, we could have been looking at the Cuba era in boxing.

It annoys me that Linares is so heralded right now, even being such a flawed product. Gamboa is very technically flawed, but has timing and speed/power unlike Linares can ever dream of.

Gamboa would have starched Larrios in 5 rounds, easily, with no struggle, this is a guy with only 7 fights, it's incredible.

I hope Linares-Gamboa happens next year, so that the 'Linares is a future ATG' complete and utter bull**** ends. Larrios, way past his best, was nothing more than a recognisable name and Linares really struggled at times in there, yet everyone is soooo impressed.

I'm also a fan from seeing the first few seconds of the DeJesus fight.

I want to add that I am also definately a fan of how Gamboa fights.

But let's make it clear that most (if not all) Cuban boxers that get and got a gold medal at an Olympic tournament are/were always very very good. Always with about 250+ fights. There is diffirence between them in talent but not that much.

Also be aware, that it is not only the boxers themselves that make them big. It's the Cuban boxing programme, the best in world.

There are many Cubans that once they have turned pro probably dominated the division in which they wi9ud have turned pro. And I am not going to start about savon and stevenson because that is so cliche.
But at the lower weights there are/were many: Vinent, Duvergel, Hernandez, Kindelan, Rigondeaux, Romero, etc, etc. Of course one is better then the other but they are no less then gamboa:yep :hey

    :good

Duvergel never used to train in Cuba, thats why he only made the Olympic team once, but no one could ever beat him, he would show up and beat the top dog of the team and then go drinking thats why you never heard that much from him because he was so undisplined... my stepfather back then used to train him, my cousin knew him and he went to cuba a few years back and told me that Duvergel works picking up the garbage early in morning at "Nueva Gerona, Cuba"... that sucks
