I think he's great, but don't you think he's old (26 years old) to accomplish great things in boxing?

In his division, most fighters are finished by the time they are 33. He will be probably 27 before he fights for a belt. What can he do in 6 years? Fighters that did amazing things had long careers.

I have to disagree.. 6 years: 16-22 fights if he's active.. if he just beats the best out there, who cares whether he is 100-0 or 35-0?

He could be the Arvydas Sabonis of boxing. Gamboa will have an exlent pro career. He may even be the #1 P4P one day, but sence he got a later start than normal in his pro career we will wonder what might have been.

Also, six years may be plenty of time. Just look at what Pacquiao accomplished between 2001-07. If his career ended today, he'd still be remembered as a great fighter and a very prosperous man.

The key will be how quickly Gamboa can get a title shot. Given his exciting speed, I think it'll happen very quickly. He seems to understand that he needs to make up for lost time, and the caliber of opponent he's been in against is much better than what you typically see for a fighter at that point in his pro career.

26 isnt that old, especially when you consider how quickly he is moving up in terms of competition.

    Agree.

I think it would be a problem if he was being moved slowly, but he isnt and i think he has a bright future.

Just look at Nate Campbell. I think he turned pro at 28?? He's now 36 and has 3 of the belts at lightweight (and he looks like he has a few fights left in him). It took Nate about 8 years to be in the position he's at now... Gamboa can be there in 2 years at the pace he's going. That'll put him at 28 years old with a good 4-6 years to reign as a champ.

It really doesn't matter how old you are as long as your body holds up, as long as he doesn't get punch drunk or brake his hands he could fight at a high level for at least another 10 years.
