I think he'd have no issue with any 126 fighter, weak division that. Linares may catch him with a few nicely placed sharp counters, in fact, he will, so it'd give us an indication of Gamboa's punch resistence, but Linares would fold under that kind of blazing assault and get stopped himself. Valero....:rofl No disrespect to Valero, guy has overcome a lot and can hit, but he's clearly a C+ fighter who's making the most of it.
You really see it happening that quick? ive been impressed by Linares, although that said, Gamboa is no 'normal' fighter, only seen snippets of his fights so far.
Realistically, Gamboa could have faced Valero in his first professional fight and won a title with a KO in 1 or 2.
Yeah, while I'm unsure of Gamboa's punch resistance, he's never given me any reason to question it so far, unlike Linares who I've seen buzzed by lesser punchers. I like Linares; he's a talented young fighter who can still add some things to his game. Rangy, authoritative jab, puts his punches together nicely, and good footwork to boot. But I can't see him being able to deal with Gamboa, especially in close.
The sad part is that this answer goes for anybody at 130, yet it's hard to get these fights to happen. I can't see Gamboa beating Guzman right now personally, in fact, I think he'd be badly beaten until he gets the necessary experience, as Guzman is nearly as quick, more crafty and apparantley has a chin and body of steel(hard fighter to beat that). You have a guy with fast hands, great defence, good boxing skill, good inside and outside fighting ability, excellent counter puncher and seemingly having the Shane Mosely type of all around punch resistence(never even seen the guy blink yet at a shot).... Good fighter, tough to beat and nobody really wants to mess with that. But I'd tip Gamboa after 2 years experience against some lesser guys, my feeling is that Guzman is still a bad style for him though... not really an easy style for anyone...
I see Guzman winning the fight in a very interesting battle. Don't really know how it would play out, but I think Guzman's defense, movement, and equally unpredictable offense would play a big part.
KO Power!!! Linares has it. Linares is taller & Longer. Gamboa can be hit. He's not like PBF who is a defensive genious. Gamboa is an offensive Monster but Linares is Like JMM with more Power.
Gamboa is great hes the next big thing but Ive seen him get poped going inside, this is going to be one of his weakness and if he learns how to fight on the outside aswell I think we got a future champ here.
