C-. He's my favorite fighter, I was very disappointed. I hope it was ring rust and that this allowed him to shake it off. I feel he could have took out Farrenas early if he applied the right kind of pressure but I'm beginning to worry he doesn't know what the right kind of pressure is. He didn't show a lot of ring IQ last night, his chin disappointed again, he was less aggressive than I've ever seen him and worst of all he looks to have slowed down a bit, his hands and feet weren't as quick as usual. Like I say could be rust but he did not look like the same Gamboa, lets hope he just needed to get back int here and shake it off.

I agree with you about his overconfidence but not about the mediocre defence and chin. His problem is that he disregards his opponents ( it's a Cuban thing ) and this is why he gets tagged but whenever he chooses to really pay attention he is another different fighter. Against Salido he showed a little more respect, this is why Salido was not able to hit him much.

Gamboa's chin is actually quite good to be honest. That shot that he got hit with in the 9th could've KO'd anyone. He only took a knee, got up in 2-3 seconds and continued fighting. His legs didn't wobbled and he was not dazzed. But he could've easily avoided that shot if he would've paid attention and not leave himself opened.

    i give him a B
other that the 9 rd he dominated the whole fight.Speed wasnt the usual but decent enough, the power was ok since farenas has a good chin.
i agree about the overconfidence, the moment he got KO he was rallying and putting an offensive display, he was careless since already tested a few lefts from Farenas and didnt expect to get hurt that way. But he recovered and won the fight.Other boxers the same night couldn't beat the count.

I'm not all that optimistic about him at that weight. He's too easy to hit, and one of these days is chin is going to crack. Paul Williams adopted Gamboa-esque defense and that detracted from his career, too.

considering he was out for 15 months and Farenas is known as a pretty powerful puncher, he did well. But he definately doesnt look ready for the likes of Broner

    I'd give him a C-

Far below where I have seen him in the past in all areas. Obviously there are plenty of reasons for the slippage which could be worked out. Still, it is what it is, and he looked quite vulnerable in this fight actually and it makes me even more sure that he made the right decision not to go all the way up in weight to fight Rios at this stage.

    B-

Gamboa looked strong and well conditioned. He demonstrated good speed and some nice reflexes. Instead of trying to be all flashy, I thought he should of tried to be more fundamental. I'm thinking 50 cent was trying to get him to be very crowd pleasing and demanded some of that showmanship , but it almost cost him the fight.

This is your first fight after a long lay off, this is not the fight where you want to be acting all flashy. Gamboa was rocked quite a few times in this fight, I don't think he would of been rocked if he would of just stuck to his fundamentals and been patient. If he would of been a little more economical with his shots I think by the late rounds he would of TKO Farenas. But instead he got a little overexcited and over aggressive and went in throwing too many wild shots and was paying the price. He had to step back on a couple of exchanges and shake the cob webs to clear his head, from the shots Farenas got on him.

We'll at least those critics that do not appreciate the sweet science. can not accuse him of not being aggressive, being boring, and not pleasing the crowd. I just think it was a little too much, too soon. One needs to wait for all the rust to be off the gears, and their timing to be established before starting to get flashy. Good thing it was Farenas he was fighting here and not Uchiyama, Salgado, Roman Martinez, or Beltran Jr.

Gamboa should have another fight as soon as he can, to get his timing back and get the rest of the rust out.

ok, a C. I thought he was much better against Salido. He should think about coming into the ring about 138. At that weight, he should be much quicker with both hands and feet!

Well said my brother. I believe that he was taking it somewhat easy in there, hitting and stopping, playing defence and just trying to get in some good rounds. Another factor that not many are talking about is that at the moment Gamboa doesn't have a solid trainer/Coach. During his best performances against Mtagwa, Salido and Solis he was with Ismael Salas. Now his only Coach is his dad and while his dad knows boxing ( he was a solid boxer back in Cuba ) he is not on Salas' level. Another great trainer for Gamboa would be Pedro Diaz as he also knows the Cuban fighters.

The conclusion is that it's just too hard to make a clear judgement with this comeback fight. We have to wait to see him again ( hopefully asap ) to make a better judgement. Overall, I am satisfied seeing him back in action and giving us a glimpse of his old version ( that second round knockdown was lightning fast! ). About Broner ... Gamboa has all the skills and tools to beat him but needs more time to get rid of the inactivity and settle in 135 pounds.

I grade him a c and the reason why is because he was getting tag alot vs a fighter thats not even really good. I bet nobody here knew who was farenas before his fight vs gamboa. Farenas is not even remotely close to the level of broner. Hell i bet if demarco somehow move down to 130 pounds, he would ko farenas badly. Farenas before this fight had 3 losses vs fighters that s4cks. Thats the real reason why gamboa took him far too lightly cause he doesnt think farenas was really good. Gamboa show he still have great speed, decent pop, skills. If gamboa fights broner, he better not play around because if he does, Gamboa will have a huge "PROBLEM".

    gamboa all day!!!!

yall hating need to rewatch the fight and apreciate the greatness and skillset.

so he got hit a few times its boxing and he was on a 15 month layoff.

and farenas threw 386 punches and only landed 86.in 12 rounds!!!!
    thats phenomenal defense.
besides farenas knew he had no chance of winning,..so he was just hoping and waiting for the big shots.

also who the **** has broner fought????????NOBODYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

SINCE YALL WANNA SAY BRONER WOULD BEAT HIM,..
COMPARE GAMBOA AND BRONER ON THERE FIGHT AGAINST PONCE DE LEON.

some people say broner lost that fight, and gamboa beat de leon every round easy.
gtfoh witht the gamboa hate, yall look stupid.
