Yvan Mendy vs. Jesús Arévalo & Johann Duhaupas vs. Newfel Ouatah RBR

They really should stick Duhaupas in with Whyte.

 

Just got around to watching the co-main in full.

Ouatah was definitely the tidier boxer in there at times. Landing a nice mix of right hands, uppercuts and shoe shining a bit to rack up points. Problem is that there's almost nothing on his jab - it's one of the worst I've seen among bigger heavyweights who have some pedigree - only Granat and Price rival him really. How do you expect to keep a guy like Duhaupas who can tank a lot of punishment off you when your jab is so poor? The pressure alone wore him down, but he clearly suffers from terrible stamina, lack of power and a weak heart. He had a good shot at pulling the upset here, even in the 7th and 8th round(despite the KD) he still had his moments. But just wasn't up to it..

Duhaupas once again proved his toughness but also showed his limitations. There's a lot of options for him however though... 2 fights alone domestically. Takam who he was supposed to fight earlier in there year and Yoka. The former is probably likely to happen next - as Takam and Duhaupas are at a similar crossroads and win for either would propel them inro position where they could maybe get 1 more crack at the title. Not sure Yoka's handlers would want to put him in with Duhaupas yet even though he could probably beat him already. There's just too much risky currently due to his vulnerabilities and Duhaupas toughness. Expect we'll see this one within the next 2 years though. Then of course there's a rematch with Helenius which would be a good draw in Finland, European title fight with Kabayel and of course a rematch with Charr for the WBA regular title. So there's a lot of options for the Frenchman now.

As for Ouatah? That's twice his failed at European level. He can back to tomato can crushing and maybe try his luck out at the level again in a year or two's time, but my guess is that he would come up short for the 3rd time. Best bet for him is to smash some tomato can's and then hope Yoka's handlers select him as an opponent next year.

 

Was the main event worth watching?

 

So has the French pastry chef now put himself in line for a potential rematch with the highly respected WBC HW champion of the world Deontay "Bum Squad" Wilder?

 

He's more qualified than Stiverne was for their rematch, that's for sure!

 

Duhaupas is like the French Chuck Wepner. I like watching this guy fight , hard as nails and strong of will
