What a **** ref. Pete Sell walked into the Octagon against Matt Brown and simply got beat up from the opening bell. Im not exactly sure what his tactic was other than get punched in the face but Yves was a joke. First with with the initial KD he pulls Matt off as though he was going to stop the fight (when he should have) then let it continue and Sell just got beat around the ring and took way too many unanswered punches! Eventually after Brown implores him a number of times he finally stops the fight. atsch
shut up he excused himself, he already said that he ****ed up big time and that he had no excuse. Lavigne is one of the most consistent ref. **** happens.
Yves is easily one of the best refs in all of MMA. This incident(even though it was a pretty big ****up) doesnt change that.
There was also a fight earlier in the night that was view by many as a very EARLY stoppage, not to make excuses but that could have been in the back of his mind. Yves is usually an excellent ref.
Yves typically does a very good job. While I agree that the reffing in that fight was horrendous, these guys only have a split second to make a call. Most of the time they get called out for stopping things too early. In this case, he probably thought he should give Drago a shot. It turned out to be the wrong decision. Dan Mirgliatta is by far the worst ref.
If I feel bad for anyone in that fight's it's Brown. If he'd have lost the fight after Lavigne's phantom stoppage then he'd have had a legit beef that he was robbed. Sell got another chance after getting rocked badly. How much would Koscheck or Werdum or whoever else give for that extra five seconds?
