    Well welcome to professional boxing.

Should Tucker be penalised for not beating better opposition?

The fact is, he fought two ATGs in their primes and gave them both competitive fights. It doesn't matter if he only beat James Broad.

On the flipside Tua has knocked out a number of decent fighters but what happened when he stepped up? He looked like a complete fool.

I don't know why Asser brings up Haye, another overrated fighter.

Yet he beat a fighter that knocked Lennox Lewis as far back as your mothers rentbook...

He hurt it before the fight.

I suspect his managers didn't reckon he could win anyway and just pressured him to take the fight, fearing they'd all lose money, perhaps lose the title in an IBF meeting room.
    They cashed him in.

I know he injured it prior to the fight but he shattered it also when punching Tyson.

BoxingInsider.com: Your next fight you took on Mike Tyson. Were you 100% for
    that fight?
Tony Tucker: My right hand was broken when I fought him I knew Tyson
couldn’t beat me. A couple days before I was sparring against
a guy named Young Joe Louis. This guy was doing a lot of
talking bad about me. I heard this from my sparring partners.
So I chose him to spar against first because I was gonna put
him down. I was hitting him real good when I heard a pop in my
hand When I went back to the corner I knew I had hurt it bad.
The doctor said I had a small hand fracture. They said I would
need therapy and to not use it for ten days. I had to fight Tyson
in less than that. I went in determined though. I was very
apprehensive to attack Tyson due to the hand. I hit him with a
right uppercut early and my hand just shattered. It was the
worst pain ever. I still went on though, that’s why I did all those
antics and everything. I was supposed to beat this guy, but
how could I with one hand. With two hands I would have
    knocked Mike Tyson out.

Not if he gave competitive fights to the best fighters of his era.

    The story seems legit.
    But that's life.

It's impossible to say what would happen if Tucker had two good hands. He seems sure he'd KO Tyson, but maybe he would have opened up more and allowed Tyson to KO him. It's an unknowable thing.
    Tyson deserves credit.
Tucker deserves a bit of sympathy perhaps. Boxing's a tough business and these things shouldn't really happen, but they do.

There's a limit to how much credit I give fighters for losing. His loss to Tyson was clear enough, and I thought he was beaten even more clearly by Lewis, who I don't rate as anything amazing (1993 version). To be fair Tucker was past his best against Lewis.

Tucker has a win over Douglas, so that's cool.
His other wins over anyone decent were dubious decisions.

I suppose Tony Tucker might rate with John Tate or someone like that.

Yep that's why it's called "The Hurt Business."

I suppose Tony Tucker deserves to be ranked about equal with most of the 1980s alphabet champions.

Tucker was a really talented guy. His performance against Tyson is under rated. I personally feel Tyson's performance against Tucker was outstanding where when he failed to get the Knock out and realized the guy had a solid chin and jab, he adapted to out box the opponent and win the decision.

You wouldn't know anything about the "HURT" business, you talk out of you azz! :yep

First off,you can still fight with a fractured hand, fighters do it all the time, with padded gloves/pain killers ,a hurt hand is a non issue its common in boxing. The excuse that Tucker hurt his hand is almost irrelevant , if he had proved it be be broken which he never did after the fight then its an issue,it was also Tysons only second year as a pro which would effect the outcome ever more,he would easily have k.od Tucker beyond 86,we know this because Tucker was never a better fighter he stayed the same. You imbecile... :lol99

Yep Tyson really maintained a disciplined fight plan and didn't lose his composure, something he couldn't come close to doing later in his career. He had the confidence to know he could win the fight without the ko. One of my favourite wins of his. I don't believe the hand issue would have changed much Personally, with 2 hands tucker would have got the ko? Yeah right, Tyson barely blinked after that uppercut.
