Terrible news. I'll definitely be hoping for the best for him and any family he's got.

He's fought some hard, hard hitters in his career like Montiel and Vic....I have to wonder if this was a career's worth of accumulation and possible weight draining coming into play or if Luis just got him the wrong way. Either way, here's hoping he bounces back from this.

Here's an update on Gorres' Condition:

    From Fightnews:

    Z Gorres Update

Bantamweight contender Z Gorres survived a late knockdown in route to a unanimous decision victory over Luis Melendez on Friday night in Las Vegas. Moments later he collapsed to the canvas and was taken on a stretcher to University Medical Center’s trauma unit where he underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Since the surgery, Gorres’ progress has been very good. The brain pressure has remained stable. Monitoring is not needed anymore. The plan for tomorrow is to decrease sedation and allow him to be more conscious. They will start weaning him from the ventilator in order to allow him to breathe on his own. Team Gorres ask for all who believe in prayer to continue to pray for him and his recovery.

Honestly at this point I think the best news is that he's not dead. He'll probably have significant brain damage but i sounds like he won't end up like McCallum

Here's an update on Z Gores's condition. Its promising news. Its probably avery fortunent thing for him to have had this happen in Nevada where the commitions and doctors are the best in the world at dealing with these things. I hope the rest of his recovery goes well.

Fightnews is happy to report that professional medical opinion is that fomer world title challenger Z Gorres is expected to have a functional life. For now, he will need to rehabilitate his left side which may need time but he is no longer in critical condition although still in a serious situation. Gorres may be removed from the ventilator in the next 48 hours. According to Dr. Casey (Trauma Surgeon), the progress of Gorres is remarkable and is normally seen in two weeks but because Gorres who is young and in great health responded well in only five days. “Z has dramatically improved, I am happy with his developement” said Casey.
“We are pleased to hear the news and would like to thank everyone for all the prayers that we know that have helped Z recover from the biggest fight of his life. Thank you,” said Michael Aldeguer President of ALA Promotions. (Gorres’ Promoter in the Philippines). Gorres won a unanimous decision over Luis Melendez on Friday night in Las Vegas. Moments later he collapsed to the canvas and was taken on a stretcher to University Medical Center’s trauma unit where he underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain.

Yeah, the news trickling out has been optimistic for a few days (think he was even conscious on Sunday/Monday), was scary for the first 48 hours or so...

Honestly now my biggest curiosity is how he took the emotional toll of having everyone close to him (wife, manager), and medical professionals, say "You can't ever fight again". That has to be salt in the wound; even though it's wonderful he recovered he's got to be experiencing more discomfort than simply needing to rehab his motor skills. :-(

I know. Honestly, I'm pretty amazed by how he's recovered. I mean I'm so used to guys in this type of situation ending up like Gerald McClellan that I'm kinda shocked by positive news like this.

I shot Z's last fight on 11/13 @ The House of Blues in Las Vegas and was only a few feet away from Z when he collapsed.
