I've known of Zab and Floyd since they're amateur days and they were both pretty much equally regarded and Zab I'd say was probably more highly regarded due to him being from the NYC area and there being more media exposure.

I'm from Michigan(detroit to be exact) and I heard about Mayweather obviously but I don't know how big he was nationally till they both got to the Olympic trials. Zab had and still does have all the tools (speed, power, footwork, etc). I think he's even faster and more stronger than Floyd.

The difference between the two though is in their conditioning and ring smarts of which Floyd totally leapfrogs zAb. Do you know that Floyd Sr is going to be training Zab for his fight with Mosley?? They talk about it on another site who's name I can't mentioned here, lol.

Heres a cool pic from Zahir Raheem's myspace page of them all during their Olympic days. Btw, Zab didn't qualify.

I was gonna say, I didn't think Zab was in the olympics. As far as his early pro hype.....I never saw the comparison to whitaker when he stepped up in competition. But I agree about his tools, his speed and power. But besides the things you mentioned that Floyd has over him, zab also seems to melt down mentally when he cant force his will on somebody. He should be great, Im just not sure his brain is wired for greatness.

Jab, Zab is definitely "sports psychologist" material no doubt. Remember that crazy crap he did in the middle rounds with Floyd, lol??

"Pressure bust pipes" but "pressure SHATTERS ZAB",lol.. Specifically my issue with Zab and I've been one of his biggest defenders but my issue is when he's in trouble, rather than trying to put his hands together to throw combinations, he tries to look a one punch knockout blow similar to the post prison Mike Tyson. I've seen in it in the following fights. Spinks I, Rafael Pinneda, Baldomir, Floyd and Cotto.

For his build and the fact he doesn't get too out of shape between fights (weight wise), conditioning issues shouldn't even be an issue for him.

It always annoys me when guys het overhyped on their way up, and then when they turn out not to be as great as they were supposed to be, people turn on them and say: "this guy really sucks". Why? Because he's not an ATG?
Judah was once called a 'cross-over between Whitaker and Tyson' by Max Kellerman, and there where plenty of people on that same bandwagon. But when you get that kind of label, just about anything you're gonna accomplish is gonna be a dissapointment.
So Judah is not great. So what?
He's still a 2-weight champion who after nearly 12 years in the pro game is still good enough to be a lower top-10 WW contender, and who would still kick my ass and most likely anybody else's ass on this forum. He deserves respect as a succesful professional fighter.

Zab Judah is just another overrated New York fighter. Max kellerman hyped him to the moon. Judah has a Glass Jaw and no heart. When was the last time he beat a decent fighter.

do you think he would make some ripples at light middle. he had a great fight against davis.

he shoujld go for a light middlewieght belt but stay light around 150 exactly like terry norris did.

great fighter, but was a puncher with fast hands thus meaning he didnt box when in trouble nor did he use his jab to effect. this is why i felt he was a waste of talent. you never saw a prime judah becuase of his fathers aggresive stratagy's.

rearely see him in a bad fight and is always dangerous. i dont know who said it but some one on here said that if he lost to mosley and then any welteriweght titlist he wouldnt be surprised and thats pretty true he can beat any major welter out there and has giving some light middles some problems

Zab is one of the fastest fighters ever, imo. Top10.

If you combine that speed with his power, then he's deadly.

Thats interesting that floyd senior is training zab for the mosley fight, i really dont think zabs father is the best man to have in his corner, not from what i have seen, which is pretty limited i will admit

Depends on where you were located(as far as them coming up) I described my vantage point.

you never saw a prime judah becuase of his fathers aggresive stratagy's.

Excellent point. I'm not going to say his dad was bad for him because I've seen Yoel react the way I wish I would have seen OTHER figthers fathers react when their sons were in trouble as opposed to pannicking (see Morales, Mosley as examples) folding their tent. I do think though that being Yoel has been Zab's primary trainer his entire life, that it may have gotten extremely stale. Most fighters including Floyd have had different trainers from their development stage, competing stages and pro stages. Even if it was brief but I think Yoel has been Zab's sole trainer..

But ZAb's style was/is definitely "try to get you out within 5 rounds". I think Floyd said it best when he said that Zab is a front runner. You can even look at the Baldomir fight (a fight I know I'll be flamed for this comment but I thought he racked up enough early rounds to get a 115-113 decision). The first half he looked pretty good. The second half he faded completely.

I don't wanna say it's too late as he's on 30 or 31 but he needs to go back to a "boxing first" style and then have somethng in the tank to"slug" later.

Zab was extremely well thought of (even with the NYC hype) at one time.

It's the way he lost to Tzsyu (one shot, then the chicken dance), and post fight ring antics, that Zab's image as a prospect has never recovered from.

if he would have just stayed down for the 8 count, he probably would have recovered, at least survived the round, and he did outbox Tzsyu in the first. to bad.
