Perfect trainer for Zab's style, Whitaker isn't proven to be a great coach but he isn't proven to be a bad 1, its all unknown, he plans to get Zab back to boxing, working on his defense and jab, which can only be good

Generally those who are great at anything, tend to be great because of things that can't be taught. Fundamentals aren't necessarilya staple of "greatness", not to say greats aren't fundamentally sound, but the things that allow them to rise above the rest are intangible things that can't typically be taught.

 

because what they did with no effort they get annoyed when their pupils cant do the same.

john garfield said he was once watching willie pep training a fighter and he blew a gasket because what was natural to him as breathing his fighter couldnt do it no matter how hard he tried.

 

Correct. Whitaker can't teach reflexes & heart, too things that helped him so much in his career. Judah still has some good reflexes but he doesn't adapt well when taking a beating. He never had the resolve that Whitaker did.

 

i worry that you're right but i hope that you're not. after all the years of calling judah "whitaker with a punch" this seems a good fit. relentless made a good point but i do think judah has the physical tools to do what sweet pea asks of him...can he do it when the chips are down? we'll fight out...
