Yeesh, half an hour of southpaw versus southpaw, and both are tentative counter-punchers without much pop...

 

I was about to write "10-10" because literally nothing had occurred after two minutes except both guys flashing a gear-shift right jab, mostly just feigning with it as they circled at mid-range, but Papot got in a stiff left uppercut on the navel in the final seconds. That's edged it his way by the slimmest of margins possible.

You missed the (somewhat) overall better card today, in Greece, by about 6-7 hours.

 

Round 2

McGirt is creeping all the way against the ropes, pushing off the ball of his lead foot to propel himself away from Papot, and then impaling him on counter 1-2s as he comes in. Papot launching himself with overhand lefts behind the jab, getting picked off with downward slaps of McGirt's outheld right palm. They stutter-step around each other woodenly and exchange right jabs cautiously, neither man really snapping his out, just a noncommittal push before retracting elastically.

Commentators spent the whole second round too engrossed in their conversation to pay attention to any of the action in the ring, still talking like McGirt is suffering from rust but didn't acknowledge that he was doing the best work (as Papot did next to nothing)

 

Jab, sidestep, jab, sidestep, jab, sidestep..

 

They're both punching at like 60% speed & power. Sparring mode.

 

10-9 Papot, brushed McGirt's cheek with a sneaky right hook, probably the best shot of the round although McGirt did the better jab work.

Both starting to put together body combos after psyching one another out with stiff quick jabs up top, a chess match unfolding to see who can get off with the most drubs on the abdomen before getting put in check and kept honest with the jab. McGirt favoring 1-2s, Papot right hooks.
