File this one under "WTF? ". In a fight that has apparently been "years in the making" (per conversations held publicly between "Machito" and his friends on social media), the ultra-fast-handed southpaw multiple-time world champion in 2 weight divisions with a colorful streak outside the ring, former holder of the WBO junior welterweight title, and likely someday inductee of the IBHOF will take on the son of a previous generation's late & great ultra-fast-handed southpaw multiple-time world champion in 3 weight divisions with a colorful streak outside the ring, former holder of the WBO junior welterweight title, and 2015 inductee of the IBHOF. Judah, whose 41st birthday is this coming Saturday, has fought just twice since 2013, and is coming off a dominant ten-round unanimous decision over Noel Mejía Rincón in January. Camacho Jr. - who turned 40 this September and whose pro career in the last several years has become something of a recurring gag with no fewer than a dozen big fight announcements followed by cancellations for one reason or another (so don't get too emotionally attached here) - also has fought just twice since 2013, most recently knocked out by Orlando Lora in July of last year. That was at light heavyweight, and Camacho has spent the last thirteen years vacillating from light middle to light heavy. Judah has competed as high as 154lb, yet spent the majority of his prime at 140 and is a natural light welter, although he is only ½" shorter than Camacho and has 3" greater reach. I find it one of the strangest turn arounds ever. To go from pulling guns on people for nothing(Clottey) and street brawls, trying to chin the ref at the Tsyzu fight, to being a nurse ! Fair play to him, but he sounds schitz to me !
Hard to see anything but a highlight reel KO for Judah but for some reason Camacho Jr. has been very confident of victory in this matchup which he claims to have been chasing for over two decades, since they fought in the Olympic trials in 1996 (Camacho defeated Ishé Smith and was favored by some to earn a berth on the US squad but was eliminated with defeats at the hands of Judah and David Diaz)
Also going through like four different religions. As has Machito, actually (currently a very devout Muslim) They are characters for sure.
